Sex trafficking is not a voluntary exchange. When you conflate these things you do a disservice to both consensual workers and trafficking victims.

@joskarbek I feel this way about a lot of media portrayals tbh. Like I don't think a white person should ever get a role to play someone that isn't white. I don't think straight people should be playing LGBTQ+ roles, etc..

Portrayals of Sex Workers in the media should always require the consultation of Sex Workers and be played by actual Sex Workers. No matter how great an actress one is, unless you have actually done the job, you will never really be able to play the role authentically.

HR duties- While working in my corporate job, I was also responsible for managing staff's confidential information and other HR issues. Sometimes they just needed someone to hear them out about issues they were having personally or professionally. This was not far off from SW.

Another fun fact from my civilian work life - I was responsible for managing the organizations' IT department. Any trouble-shooting or IT platform implementation was in my wheel house. And the staff came to me for help.

To clarify, I mean that my clients were of substantial status (CEO's, academics, doctors, etc, etc) and most were really nice people, not the assholes that I had to deal with in the office.

Great example- I worked in a highly conservative office environment where people grovel at the CEO and pander to assholes who work in the government or academic fields . These people have all been my clients in the past, and I will never grovel at them like my colleagues do.

@joskarbek When people get philosophical about SW like this, it makes SW seem even less legitimate. It's trying too hard. You don't have to extrapolate SW into every facet of life. Like a trophy wifes yoga studio that's 3k in the red monthly, hubby covers it to keep her busy. Illegitimate.

Sex Work not only has so many transferable administrative skills into civiliian work, but it allows you to see beyond people's work personas. All those CEOs and directors are just human to us, because we have seen so many of them naked and made them do naughty things.

@GoddessSynful Funny enough I have learned tips and tricks through my much younger friends who were taught about money at a young age. I'm an older Millennial and was never taught about investing. I'm just learning now!

something I've noticed that I can't quite flesh out is while lots of people of both genders will stay in unsatisfying relationships, men seem to be more likely to stay in a relationship where they aren't happy than women are.
but they won't end it, unless it's for someone else.

the times I have spoken to men about why they left their relationship to be alone, it's always been for really egregious behavior. like, they now have full custody and the kids wouldn't be safe with mom.
I see this not just with marriage though, even just in casual dating.

@emilykmay i think gay men have a lot more non-monogsmous relationships which makes things more interesting. But also I know plenty of gay men going through extremely messy divorces now and my LE connections tell me that gay s have the worst cases of DV
