@FyneJamie Is stealing other people’s IP more craft? This looks like a mature approach to me..

Blimey - Brewdog appear to have paid a licence fee to use someone else’s brand. Is craft dead - discuss?

Time for a long overdue conversation around IP infringement for the brewing industry. How many people bought this thinking it was an official product?.. nzherald.co.nz/sport/nrl-warr…

@robert_t_bruce @southstarbrew US$32 for a four pack. Add in state sales tax (US stores never include it till check out) - that’s NZD$58 / four pack. Our latest Trillium collab double IPA is $11 including GST - USD$6.60 - with significantly higher excise tax…

@southstarbrew @thebiglankyape Drinking pints of Murphy’s in snugs around Cork County was the inspiration behind it, so best to track that down for a comparison! 🍻

@thebiglankyape Bit of a brutal comparison though! Snug is trying to be Guinness Draught . Ppl welcome to say that about North End The Lash which is apples and apples.

@MarioWynands Beyond overdue, but still fantastic news. I can’t help but reflect in the time it took for this to happen, a game engine company started, grew and acquired the recipient of the bulk of NZSPG cash. Makes you wonder what could have been if this had happened 15 years ago..

Specific details yet to come, but the NZ Government commitment of NZ$160m over the next 4 years to back a 20% rebate for the NZ games industry is a meaningful and welcome sign of support. beehive.govt.nz/release/tech-i…

@ChrisKeall Hops are being grown commercially in Garston. Hard to get any further South than that!

This is research. Lincoln students, working with Kaiser (part of Giesen) have been trying to prove a quaffable strain of hops can be grown south of Nelson

Jeff is absolutely on the money here. When Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin was released I knew we were about to relive the 90's crash, and so it has been. Dumping fruit flavouring into beer is never a good sign.
Jeff Alworth@Beervana

“Let’s start here: I think craft’s malaise is a thing. I don’t see this as a temporary downturn. Craft beer is suffering an identity crisis and it won’t snap back to being the cool kid’s drink anytime soon.” beervanablog.com/beervana/2023/…

@southstarbrew US craft volumes have increased 59.7% since Grapefruit Sculpin was released. In that same time, the number of breweries has increased 193.6%. I would argue that is a bigger problem than fruit flavoured beers which can be traced back hundreds if not thousands of years..

I just got back from 10 days in New Zealand 🇳🇿 And I think I'm in love. I fell asleep on the plane from Vancouver and woke up groggy and out of it 10 hours later. I was confused. It was as if the plane had diverted back to British Columbia, except everyone had a mild stroke and talked a bit funny. First of all, it's gorgeous. Unlike any place I've seen. It's like British Columbia had a three way with the English countryside and Hawaii. NZ is the baby that popped out after. I'm from British Columbia, which is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. NZ puts it to absolute SHAME. It's mind bendingly beautiful. It's also totally unique. Because New Zealand's ecosystem evolved independently from the rest of the world, it has totally different birds, animals and plants. Looking around, you feel a bit like a toddler again. Everything is vaguely familiar, but different. Also: ✅ Despite being a LONG flight (14 hours from Vancouver), it felt like nothing. The plane leaves at 8pm, I read for a few hours then went to sleep. Felt like 2-3 hours. ✅ It's only a 3 hour time difference from the west coast (PST), so there's almost zero jet lag ✅ Despite its size, you can get a wide variety of weather and experiences. It's one of the longest Island Nations vertically, so you've got Hawaii vibes Northlands and snowy mountains in the South Island. Business wise, it's fascinating: Because it's only 5 million people, it is often one of the last places that global companies move into. This creates limitations, but also huge opportunities. Like the nature, almost every business is a unique brand that we've never heard of. There's the Home Depot of New Zealand (Bennings). The Best Buy (Noel Leeming). Etc. Aside from some big 5 accounting firm and fast food joints, it seemed like most of the big businesses were home grown. The same thing goes for tech. For example, Ebay and Craigslist didn't take off. Instead, someone cloned it before they could and became a billionaire (Trade Me). The market is small, but if you build dominance there, there is riches in this niche. It's also incredibly accessible. With one tweet, I met a ton of the most successful folks down there (who all seemed to know one another) and even had breakfast with the former Prime Minister! I'm a pretty big proponent of Canada, but New Zealand is a close second. I could easily see myself spending more time down there. If anyone has a profitable NZ-based business ($500k+$30M of annual profit) and is looking for a minority or majority investor, I'm all ears. I'm a convert 😍

Guess no one else going to GDC from Aotearoa decided to go via Vancouver? Probably sensible considering the 10 degree forecast 🙄🙄🙄🥶

@cjsbishop This bullshit virtue signalling is why i cant drink Garage Project products anymore. It's distasteful woke imagery. It is crossing a line in where it isn't taking aim at the russian military/political arm, but all Russians and their national pride.

@southstarbrew Our collaboration with Sierra was Steve’s last project before he retired. All the Beer Camp breweries were matched with a different SN brewer, and we were lucky to get Steve. Brilliant guy and real highlight working with him

Re: speeding fines. Managed to get two in a day, both in 50km zone. 1 for 54km at $12 & 1 at 66km for $120. Wow. Nice escalation. If I hit 90km will the fine be $1000? We’re going to a blanket 30km in the hood soon & I wanna math it out.

I honestly wish Brianne and the team at Daisy Lab all the best. But they follow in the footsteps of so many similar programs that we've never heard from again. I'd love to see Stuff follow-up on this company and this program and report on the results, in 6 months + 12 months.

This is a strange question, but does anyone have a drumkit for Rockband (the video game) on Playstation? Specifically with the cymbals. I'm looking to buy. Also a guitar for the same game, if anyone has one
