Oh also being married to a law student has been extremely taxing as well lol. Homeschool moms have been telling me I do too much but I do think I need to provide my daughter with the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic along with all the other fun things we do 🤷🏻‍♀️

I homeschooled for all the right reasons this year and those reasons are what’s left me feeling so burnt out lol. A double edged sword!

I had received some questions about President @realDonaldTrump's recent posts, and here are my thoughts: I do not believe President Trump would knowingly depict himself as Jesus Christ—that would certainly be inappropriate. I’m thankful the President has made it very clear that this was not at all what he thought the AI-generated image was representing—he thought it was a doctor helping someone, and when he learned of the concerns, he immediately removed the post. When I looked at the illustration, I didn’t jump to the same conclusion as some. There were no spiritual references—no halo, there were no crosses, no angels. It was a flag, soldiers, a nurse, fighter planes, eagles, the Statue of Liberty, and I think this is a lot to do about nothing. There is so much ill-intended speculation. I think his enemies are always foaming at the mouth at any possible opportunity to make him look bad. And the illustration from someone else he reposted on Truth Social yesterday, I must say that I like the fact that this is a picture of Jesus whispering in his ear, or at least His hand on his shoulder, guiding him. We all need that—we all need to be listening to Jesus. Again, I think there is an attempt to spin this into something that it isn’t. Remember, President Trump didn’t draw this, he didn’t create it, he reposted it on his social media because he thought it was nice—I would have to agree. I’m not a Catholic, I’m an evangelical, but I appreciate how President Trump has defended religious freedom for people of all faiths, including millions of evangelicals and Catholics in the U.S. and around the world. He is the most pro-Christian, pro-life president in my lifetime, and he doesn’t shy away from it. I would hope that the President and Pope Leo can meet at some point, and that the Pope would have the opportunity to thank the President for his efforts to protect religious liberty for Catholics and people of all faiths.

Having children is the closest you’ll ever come to having a second childhood. As an adult, I’m jaded. But kids still see the world as fresh and new. Everything is magical and interesting to them. It heals my soul and rekindles some of the joy I use to have.

@jpbrca The nice thing about peonies is they were going to die back in the fall anyway! Our plants look like trash by July, and the first couple of years it freaked me out; but as long as they had enough time to feed on the sun, they’re always plenty happy come April

@alyssaleann Every time my father in law goes on and on about how proud he is my kids have his last name it’s like nails on a chalkboard. Like, I get it and I’m happy for him. But it’s so tone deaf to what women give up without question.

somewhat seriously re: married last names… I’m happily married and have been since I was 21 years old. I changed my last name, and wish I hadn’t. I don’t regret it enough to undo it, and I do love sharing a name with my husband but I wouldn’t do it again I felt (and still feel, a little bit) that I killed a part of myself when I changed my name. that feels dramatic to say, and it is! I would prefer not to feel this way, but I haven’t been able to shake it the feeling didn’t sink in until a friend sent me a picture of my name engraved on the sidewalk of my university (a tradition for the graduating classes); and that wasn’t my name anymore. Alyssa Mars no longer existed years later, I saw my maiden name on an old paper I wrote and my brain didn’t recognize it as Me for a second; when it finally clicked, I felt genuine sadness names are important, and that’s why we fight about them so much. I don’t think that fighting is useful, and I don’t think there’s a right answer or that our choices are even a particularly good or interesting reflection of our values or affections each couple should be thoughtful about their choice, unburdened by family and societal pressures and honest about what their name means to them

@joshcowenMI Many private schools are just not deserving of public funds because they do nothing to accommodate a diverse body of students—from 504 plans & IEPs, health challenges, learning differences, lack of transportation, reading intervention, the list goes on.

In most cases, state-funded voucher systems are here to stay. But they can be amended and reformed for fair and common sense improvements. The simplest is simply what Rob says here: if you take public dollars, you take public kids.
