This Day in Aviation History... May 26, 1991 Lauda Air Flight 004, a Boeing 767, disintegrates in mid-air over Uthai Thani Province, Thailand, killing all 223 people on board. A thrust reverser had accidentally deployed in flight, causing the disaster.

@jpr747 Grandpa was an Eastern Pilot for 30+ years. Never flew the Tristar though. He retired on the A-300 in 1987. Favorite plane to fly was the DC-9, closely followed by the 727.

This Day in Aviation History… May 25,1982 A VASP Boeing 737 on landing procedures at Brasília during rain, made a hard landing with nose gear first. The gear collapsed and the aircraft skidded off the runway breaking in two.

This Day in Aviation History… May 25, 2000 Reginald Chua hijacks Philippine Airlines Flt. 812, an Airbus A330, just before landing at Aquino Inter’l Airport near Manila. A male flight attendant pushes him out of the aircraft from a rear door and he falls from the airplane.

This Day in Aviation History… May 25, 2003 A Boeing 727, tail number N844AA, mysteriously disappears in Angola, along with pilot Ben Charles Padilla and mechanic John Mutantu. The aircraft took off, heading southwest over the Atlantic Ocean before disappearing.

This day in aviation aviation history… May 25, 2008 Kalitta Air Flight 207, a 747-209F cargo jet, suffered a bird strike on runway 20 at Brussels Airport. The plane broke in three and came to a complete stop in a field bordering the runway. There were no injuries reported.
