This morning 400 girls will be looking for another school. This is because @bphillipsonMP closed theirs - Alderly Edge. A school for girls closed by The Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities. That’s Labour!

25,000 pupils have left independent schools since July 2024. This is eight times the figure predicted by the government 📈 We will continue to monitor the trend in pupil numbers ahead of the publication of our 2026 Census.

@bphillipsonMP Bridget Philipson voted to maintain the two-child benefit cap in 2024. Was this you or a different Bridget Philipson?

Tonight, Labour MPs voted to scrap the two child limit – a move that puts us on course to drive the biggest reduction of child poverty in a single Parliament. The Tories and Reform voted against it. Don’t let anyone tell you voting Labour doesn’t make a difference 🌹

After hammering private schools with a raft of taxes (eg. VAT), @bphillipsonMP now wants it to save Britain’s economy & “give millions more access to a world-class UK education on their doorstep” whilst denying the education to British children in the UK. telegraph.co.uk/money/jobs/sch…

🚨 REMINDER: Only Labour will improve SEND support. The Tories left behind a ‘lose, lose, lose’ system in their own words. Reform UK will cut SEND support. They blame ‘naughty children’ & ‘bad parenting’. Only Labour will build a system where every child can achieve & thrive.

Just a little reminder to all today’s football commentators on BBC, ITV, CH4, Sky, TNT, Amazon, Discovery+ and all the other stupid channels football is now on. Listen to Harry Carpenter!

It's funny isn't it - as @Keir_Starmer and @RachelReevesMP prepare to back track on biz rates for pubs and hospitality due to its catastrophic effect on a sector if implemented, they are blindly ignoring VAT on schools which is having the EXACT same effect and worse still - harming actual children. Nice.

That is shocking from Martinelli. Bradley clearly in pain. Didn’t need pushing off the pitch by Martinelli. Bradley now going off on a stretcher. Martinelli should feel ashamed of himself. #ARSLIV

The 100 private schools closed by spiteful Labour policies are not the grand public schools. They’re small places where children with special needs find the close attention and help state schools can’t provide. Those kids will be devastated. Shame on you, @bphillipsonMP
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP@DrNShastriHurst

A year on from this pernicious policy, over 100 independent schools have already closed as a result of Labour’s tax on school fees. We should be expanding opportunity, not undermining it.

'Labour has been responsible for closing down schools and moving 25,000 pupils out of said schools.' @CamillaTominey puts Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones MP, on the spot over the 105 private schools that have closed as a result of Labour's VAT policy.

@PWildebest @theipaper Yes, according to official forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility cited in the iNews article, the VAT on private schools is expected to raise £1.74bn per year by 2029—£40m more than the prior £1.7bn estimate—due to faster fee increases.

@bradwellcommon @GBNEWS That’s just semantics though - whether “forced out” or “unable to join” the economic effect on the public purse (both in terms of a reduction in the expected tax receipts and an increase in the cost of an extra state school pupil) are the same

@bradwellcommon @nigeext Why don’t you ask every other western democracy this question as none of them charge the equivalent of VAT on school fees - are you saying that they all got it wrong and the UK labour government )with such intellectual powerhouses as Phillipson and Lammy) got it right?

@nigeext What would the rationale be for the government not charging VAT on school fees? What would it be trying to achieve?
