YES. NO. Erm… “@kevin2kelly: Any job that can be measured by productivity is a job humans should not be doing. Productivity is for robots”

@BBCBreaking news push notifications used to be newsworthy. Now, merely to remind you it’s there: Prince Harry begins giving evidence. Prince Harry being cross examined. Prince Harry sneezes. Prince Harry looks at phone being distracted by inane not-news.

@jasonmesut Call me an optimist, but I read it as a populist shorthand for all the things that you’re talking about and more. Less calculus, more adjunct stuff.

I like math(s). I used to be v. good at it. My eldest son is brilliant at it. It helped my earlier logical thinking. But I only use the basics these days. Also, ChatGPT and other AI stuff is pretty good at math(s). Even complex reasoning. Math(s) not key to all our futures.

@MarMurube Yes in the context of policy-making we are typically talking about a bunch of generalist who, with experience, know which experts to pull in. (Ignoring policy *design* as it’s not as prevalent as our idealisation of it)

@MarMurube (2/2) the issue with specialisation is often that non-specialists aren’t held accountable at best or not allowed to dabble at worst due to discipline-territorialism

@MarMurube What I’m saying is that ethics is more like user centredness than it is like product, UI or UR disciplines. It should be a layer of consideration for each discipline.

@MarMurube (2/2) Ethics need to become part of design education, even before ergonomics.

@MarMurube One of the underlying issues is actors and what they consider to be externalities. By relegating ethical considerations to others we absolve ourselves of responsibility. It’s down to you, me and everyone else.

@cgovias You’ve been spending too much time in the vicinity of politicians.

@cgovias @cgovias what I see in the shit thread is opinion masquerading as fact. Do you think Design has managed to water down the quality of research? Is there a lot more empirical evidencing in GoC (based on your opinion)?

@ifenn You see, you’re being literal IMO. Racism isn’t just about colour and while they used that term they didn’t mean it in the way that you understand it. They used the wrong term, but the sentiment is what matters.

@ifenn Stop being so literal. You weren’t prejudiced against because of your skin colour. So you haven’t experienced what a person of colour experiences. Your experience could be equally as bad, but that doesn’t mean it’s the same.

I keep reading tweets that white people cannot experience racism. I was severely bullied at the age of 11 when I moved from Scotland to England due to my Scottish accent. Is there another word for it?

@MarMurube @mar it’s not a discrepancy. It’s reflective of the industry as a whole. The interesting question is whether we’d see a different reality (products and services) manufactured by a right leaning creators?! journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

@Martin_Jordan Sure. Ok. Misattribution is one thing. But let’s not abstract and generalise. Not all contractors are equal. Not all consultants are the same. And not all internal staff have the same capability, determination and motivation. Some always stand out and some let down.

I have to work remotely today. No coworking spaces in this part of town. I walk into Costa. Atmosphere is mellow, staff hardly make eye contact, project their dispassion. I walk into Gail’s. Staff are exuberant, smiling, it’s too loud, but I stay here.
