Pro tip:
In bear markets, short covering rallies tend to remove mechanical buyers that would have bought on market declines.
In other words, short covering mechanically opens the door to lower prices.
Shorts get added into the decline. But declines in bear markets aren't initiated by shorts.

Important point from Ben -- Americans' income was already **negative** in February once you adjust for inflation.
People were having to dip into savings or turn to credit cards to fund their spending, even before gas prices jumped to $4.
This is an early warning sign of strain

Americans' income didn't keep up with inflation in February. Real income, excluding transfer payments, fell 0.4% in February, and the three-month average was also negative. Real income excluding transfers is one of the metrics that NBER uses in determining recessions.

Long Gamma market returning...
Today marks the first time we see positive gamma return (significantly) across the trading range.
With notional gamma levels of ~$4-5bn we aren't quite "normal" but we do see dealers providing meaningful liquidity again.
