Yeah, definitely switching to Bluesky, which is way better than here. Follow me over there (same @). I'm going to leave this account up because I don't see any strong reason to delete but I won't post anymore.

I'm going to take a break from this place for a while. Maybe permanently. I'll be on Bluesky (same @) but spending less time there too. Social media hasn't felt great for me for a while and I just need to do less of it.

There is no state where 3rd party votes came close to the margin we needed. We lost to right wing voters and center voters who broke right

@jsamdrolet i have no reason to reasonably think you have done anything that would generally reasonably be called "evil", much less enough to determine that as a composite assessment of you. again, unlike kamala, whose complicity and direct participation in mass cruelty is extensive

Man, what is up with this kind of gloating? I'm totally baffled by the appeal. We'll all suffer from Harris's loss, including her. That seems like an unalloyed bad result to me.

@jsamdrolet i am capable of doing anything within reason, which includes things people would unqualifiedly reasonably call "good" and likewise "evil". nothing i have done would be generally reasonably considered "evil", unlike kamala, who's done a lot of evil things, by the metric of cruelty

I followed the 2004 election in the comments on DailyKos. This is nothing.

@jsamdrolet in the sense of "if you put kamala ugly-crying in front of me right now it could likely hit my mirror neurons" sure, can't help that, but even from my amoral perspective i can still analogically qualify her as evil just as reasonably as anyone calling hitler or hideki tojo "evil"

Life is just one damn thing after another. There's no cathartic climax. (Inspired by the election, but not limited to it.)

@SAMOYEDCORE I just can't identify with that kind of lack of empathy, sorry. Everyone's suffering is analogous to everyone else's. I don't think "evil" is really a meaningful concept since I don't believe in God, but to the extent it is I think it applies to everyone equally.

@jsamdrolet i am simply glad that an objectively evil person is suffering because that is my way of processing a much larger event that will likely make my life much more unpleasant. not unusual. her suffering is not remotely analogizable to mine and therefore i can revel in it freely

@AsadFromNYC I think it would have helped but probably wouldn't have overcome the other factors.

People were the same way about Clinton in 2016, of course, and look how that turned out. Who is on which side here?

I don't blame the Harris campaign, which I think did the best they could under the circumstances. But this is a spectacular failure of the American democratic project and it's going to take a lot of work to come back from it, if that's possible at all.

The conditions in America that led Trump to win in 2016 are all still there. Nothing has really changed, and four years of Biden-Harris was characterized by a total refusal to touch anything structural. And so he’s back.

The point I want to make for those of you who are younger is that this is a lifetime project, whether you want it to be or not. It sucks, but it is what it is. There's no point at which you can declare victory and go home.
