@CabralDanu68789 @GMB Megan died Nov 2025 whilst studying at Bournemouth Uni and this prompted my letter below to the MP of Bournemouth West. The reply from the MP is because of this. It was only a few months ago and sadly we have more cases and tragic loss of life.

English

@jskeeling @GMB I’m agreeing with you but why just now everyone has been mentioning Meg Draper? She passed away 2024 October, why then no one has mentioned her?
English

The Meningitis outbreak in Kent is now being treated as a 'national-level' incident, with the head of the UK Health Security Agency calling the explosive nature of it 'unprecedented'.
15 cases of Meningitis B have been confirmed so far - with two people dying from the disease. A nine-month old baby girl has also been admitted to a children's hospital in London after becoming unwell and is reported to be facing life changing surgery.
@NickDixonITV reports.
English

"We need to encourage people to take the vaccine"
Member of the House of Lords, Therese Coffey gives JK an update on the Meningitis outbreak.

English

@TalkTV @theresecoffey This strain is MenB, so unless you were born 2015 onwards you aren’t eligible for it on the NHS! Many parents don’t know about this and many can’t afford approx £220 for the private vaccine. All our students should be vaccinated! The Gov take enough from their student loans!!!
English

I wrote to my MP asking for MenB vaccine be offered to students. Young children receive it on the NHS, older teens don’t. After a @bournemouthuni student tragically died, now this, it should be reconsidered urgently. mol.im/a/15649183
English

@Channel4News Absolutely! Why are one of the very groups of people that need the vaccine most not eligible under the NHS. Many parents are not aware the meningitis vaccine their kids had aged 13/14 does not cover this strain. Also many can’t afford £200 privately. Students shouldn’t be at risk
English

Meningitis B is the strain behind the outbreak in Kent and if you’re over the age of 11, chances are you haven’t been vaccinated against it.
That’s because in the UK the vaccine has only been offered to babies since 2015.
Adolescents are also at risk of getting ill from MenB so should they be offered a jab?
English

@SkyNews So lethal they won’t pay for students who are at risk to have the vaccine! Students born before 2015 can only have this vaccine if they pay privately for it (£200). This was the gov response when I wrote to my MP in Nov after a Bournemouth Uni sadly died from the MenB strain.

English

Health secretary Wes Streeting said the strain of meningitis associated with the outbreak is uncommon and ‘potentially lethal’.

@TalkTV @theresecoffey Clearly I need to go to specsavers! That should read many parents don’t know!!! Think you got the gist.
English

@JeremyVineOn5 At nearly 15 she’s not too young at all. Most girls her age experiment with makeup and there’s nothing wrong with encouraging a creative interest. Plenty of successful beauty entrepreneurs started young, just look at Kylie Jenner!
English

@crazytreewoman @jdpoc Exactly! Teens shouldn’t have to pay for a vaccine that other children have on the NHS simply because they were born before 2015. If they are at risk they should be eligible. Many parents can’t afford that.
English

@jskeeling @jdpoc It costs about 200 quid privately
English

Unbelievable. Vaccination against #Meningitis is commonly available in the UK at different ages.
If parents choose not to because some ill-informed celebrity told them not to, or they saw something on #Facebook, they have failed their children.
With fatal consequences.

English

@crazytreewoman @jdpoc This vaccine became available in 2015 and only those born after this time were and still are eligible. A huge number of teenagers have not been vaccinated and many parents are not even aware that the meningitis vaccine their children had does not cover MenB.
English

@jdpoc To be fair, they only started vaccinating against B strain quite recently, so not their fault they were not protected, it's fault of gov and society for not ensuring free catch up
English

@jdpoc Unfortunately you are misinformed. It’s only available for younger children via NHS. The meningitis vaccine you refer to is MenACWY which is offered to teenagers aged 13-14. MenB for children born before 2015 is available privately for £220.
Teenagers shouldn’t be at risk.

@SkyNews @StothardTV People being outraged about a protest supporting the Iranian regime being cancelled says a lot. This is a regime that represses, imprisons, tortures, executes its own people and causes terror around the world. There’s nothing principled about defending that!

English

The Home Secretary has approved a police request to ban a pro-Iranian march planned in London for this weekend.

@omid9 How dare they talk over people who have endured tyranny. The audacity!
When someone dismisses the voices of those who have lived with a murderous regime, it reveals far more about their arrogance and ignorance than it does about the truth.
English

British woman telling Iranians that their actual lived experience “is all lies, it’s all lies”. Useful snapshot of a certain section of society that feels they can talk over Iranians and actually accuse them of brain rot.

@ZackPolanski @Keir_Starmer @MothinAli “Man of peace” who shows up at a pro-IRGC protest? The same IRGC who are a murderous regime killing thousands of their own citizens. Wow. That’s….. creative branding.
Calling that out isn’t Islamophobia, it’s basic judgment.
English

The blatant Islamophobia that @Keir_Starmer is demonstrating through smearing @MothinAli would be shocking - but it's becoming a pattern.
Smearing a caring man of principle for standing up for peace.
Harriet Williamson@harriepw
New: Starmer joining in with far-right smears today against @MothinAli - one of the country’s most prominent Muslim politicians - for attending an anti-war demo is just one example of many why he isn’t fit to be PM, a Green Party source says.
English

@EmilyThornberry You can’t reason with a regime that murders its own people and fuels terror abroad. Pretending otherwise isn’t diplomacy it’s dangerous naivety.
English

@ZackPolanski Really worried about UK escalation…. meanwhile was your deputy out there in protests cheering on the murderous abhorrent IRGC?
