kinda wanna get a hobby in 2026. what is a good hobby for dads with no spare money and who only have free time in blocks that are 40 minutes or shorter and happen at completely unpredictable dates and times? it can’t be smoking cigarettes, thats way too expensive in CA these days

A belief that really solidified for me this year is that if you are a romantic, and want to see the world full of magic and love, you have to create it.
Host the dinner party, send the flowers, write the note, share the compliment, put up the decorations, plan the outing, so on and so forth.
The default state of life is decay. To create a world that is warm and wonderful and one you and others want to participate in, you really have to work at it.
The good news is, it doesn't take that much work at all.

I went to Walmart today and saw that they are selling 65 inch TVs for $300. Why is it the only thing that comes down in price over time is a complex piece of hardware yet a hamburger triples in that time.

The only Asia that most Americans know and want to know is Japan
And maybe Taiwan
They have no clue about China, won't visit it, barely any clue what's going on in South East Asia, and their ideas about it are from decades ago which you can see back whenever they show up in popular culture like on Netflix
It's a real blindspot that most don't visit the biggest threat to their global supremacy and try learn from them to avoid them taking the #1 spot

A very rude woman is yelling and cursing at me that there's actually no rules against her blasting her Instagram videos on her phone without headphones and I'm simply begging the MTA to do something about the collapse in decorum on the subway.

1. It’s circular, they show me stuff and ofc I interact with some of it
2. I don’t always have the discipline to skip things, especially shocking things

While working on the GitHub ui modernization/migration, I’ve spent half of the time on harness engineering (skills, agents, commands, test setup, verification etc.). It reminds me of game development where you spend most of the time on the engine and level builder.

People keep asking me "are you working on something new?" and I'm not and it's because I don't have any real new ideas or problems to solve? Also AI in 2022 was groundbreaking you had the first image model, then the first real LLM, then video a year later, then 3d Now most of it is iterative, the image model is better, the LLM is better, the video model is better, everything gets better So there's less stuff to jump on for me technologically I think unless I go deeper and develop it myself I guess What's weird is most of my friends I ask "do you have any new ideas you're working on?" and they also have nothing, maybe it's some collective thing (I don't know so that's why I post it)
