Finland stands fully behind Denmark in its efforts to secure the airspace and countering hybrid activities of the kind we have seen in the last days and weeks. To make this support concrete, Finland has today decided to deploy a Counter-UAS contingent to Denmark. The Finnish Border Guard will also support with its own capabilities. I see this as an excellent example of the type of concrete Nordic cooperation we need today. Going forward, we’ll keep aligning our approaches to countering hybrid threats and pushing the capability development in Europe.

I am glad to welcome the President of Finland, @AlexStubb, to Ukraine – a friend of our state, a person who does so much to support us, to stop the war, and to reliably guarantee security. Today, we held a substantive discussion on a wide range of issues. Significant attention was paid to the attack the Russians carried out against Poland yesterday. Everything indicates that the launch of Russian drones into Polish territory through the airspace of Ukraine and Belarus was deliberate and by no means accidental. Unfortunately, Russia retains the ability to continue and expand its aggression. Strong steps are needed – not only from Europe – strong pressure that will truly limit the potential of Russian warmongering. I am grateful to Finland for supporting all our sanctions work. We expect the 19th package of EU sanctions. I am also grateful for the support of our path to the EU and the opening of clusters. A separate and essential matter is shelters. In Ukraine, we value Finland’s participation in such initiatives as the Shelter Coalition. This helps us not only at the state level but also at the community level. It is important to intensify the work of these coalitions, and all cooperation that supports our country, communities, and every person.

For three years, Ukraine has stood its ground against full-scale Russian aggression. Finland has stood by Ukraine. We have provided weapons and ammunition. We have also provided humanitarian aid and military training. Finland feels a historical brotherhood with Ukraine. Finland itself has been in the same situation against the very same aggressor. So, there are strong reasons why we have provided assistance - and will continue to do so. For as long as necessary. Ukraine has the right to choose its own path and alliances. Ukraine has the right to seek security and support for its existence as a free country and nation. Our duty is to do our part to ensure that this right is not just an empty word. Ukraine needs peace, but to be sustainable, peace must be just. Peace can only be just if conditions cannot be dictated or imposed on Ukraine.
