@HistoryDruid Espera um pouco... Tipo assim, você sabe que ele foi decapitado no final não é? Você entende que um menino de 14 anos, literalmente matou e decapitou o seu "Thor" filisteu com a própria espada dele. Não é?

Even though they’re obviously trying to paint him as the bad guy, doesn’t it seem like Goliath embodies the traditional European notions of Courage and Honor better than David does in this scene? Goliath does not want to fight a child, an opponent far weaker than him, he even offers him a weapon and converses with him. Upon hearing david’s appeals to his god, Goliath even accepts the challenge to fight a God. And what does David do? He sneaks him while he’s not looking. This video encapsulates much of our history.

think of a lone wolf walking through the savannah not looking for trouble, attention, or food. his movements, eyes... all calm. then a dog appears. the dog sees the wolf but does not know the wolf is real. the dog - having only ever seen other dogs - judges the wolf by his own standards and starts barking. he bares his teeth, and puffs up his chest trying to look dangerous. but reacting isn't the wolf's style so it doesn't. the wolf simply looks at the dog and in that look, the dog understands: this is not a dog, it's something else. something that does not need to bark. something that has killed before, and will kill again if necessary upon realizing this, the dog runs away. that, plain and simple, is the difference between a real threat and a performative show of strength. it is not in the ability to harm, but in the need to prove it.

Before I got married, I tried to warn my fiancee. I said, "I really like games." She said, "Okay. Cool." I repeated, "You don't get it. I really REALLY like games. A lot." She smiled and agreed with me. She knew I spent an evening or two a week gaming with my pals. I figured I'd tried to give her a heads-up. Six months into the marriage, she stared at me one night and then said, "You REALLY like games." At last she understood. Luckily it wasn't a dealbreaker, because she is alerted to my game evenings ahead of time, so if she has a conflict she can bring it up. She actively encourages me to play games with my friends. She thinks it's good for me. She prefers it when I game at our house, but it's not required. IMPORTANT: I never "made time" for her. She is the priority. I "made time" for games. Here are two photos. One's before our marriage. One's a year ago. You can see why I'm crazy about her looks, but she's super nice too.

Your actual ancestor on a random Wednesday was probably knee-deep in mud, walking behind an ox. About 90 out of every 100 medieval Europeans were peasants. The cavalry charge in the video is AI-generated, and those horsemen were the rich 3% you would never have met. Researchers who tracked European nobles for over 600 years found that about 30% of the men died in battle. That number crashed to under 5% by the 1500s, before guns even became common. Even the warrior class itself was getting safer long before any of us showed up. The other 90% of people worked sunrise to sunset on a strip of land they did not own. You owed your lord days of unpaid labor every week. The church took 10% of every harvest on top of that. You needed your lord's permission to move. You needed it to marry too. The "scared modern men" framing also has a math problem. In 14th-century Oxford, 110 people out of every 100,000 got murdered every year. In modern London that number is under 1. A medieval Oxford resident was about 100 times more likely to be killed by a stranger than someone living in London today. Hunter-gatherer societies before farming were even worse, with roughly 500 violent deaths per 100,000. That kind of violence was random and ugly. People got knifed in tavern fights. They got conscripted into wars they did not understand. They died of infected scratches that a five-dollar antibiotic would now fix in three days. Many starved when the harvest failed and the lord still wanted his rent. Plenty of modern young men take risks. The global extreme sports market is worth roughly $200 billion. Around 490 million people pay for the privilege of jumping out of planes, climbing mountains, kayaking through rapids, and similar pursuits their grandparents would have called insane. Adventure tourism is growing 16% a year, mostly driven by people aged 25 to 40. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in their 20s quit stable jobs to start companies that will probably lose them their savings. The most successful founders in America average 45 years old, but most of them started something risky much earlier. The video carries an AI watermark in the corner. It is a computer-generated image of warriors who never existed, paired with a caption telling real men they are soft for being scared to talk to a real woman. The ancestors of the people watching probably had the same anxieties their descendants do, attached to different things: whether the harvest came in, whether the lord raised the rent, whether the next war would pull their son off the farm. They had fewer ways to do anything about any of it.

Phone wallpapers are one of the most accidentally honest psychological tells we have. People unlock their phone roughly 150 times a day. Whatever sits on that lock screen gets 150 reps of unconscious priming, every single day, for years. Men aim those reps at their wife. Women aim them at a mountain, a sunset, or a quote about the person they're trying to become. The husband's wallpaper is a tether. The wife's wallpaper is a compass. Both are asking the same thing of the screen, regulate me, for opposite reasons. He uses the photo to feel anchored to her. She doesn't need 150 daily reminders that she's married. The screen gets repurposed for the work that's still in motion: who she's becoming. The lock screen reveals what each person is actively trying to feel.

Polyamory doesn't work because once you open the door to new partners, you're constantly expanding to new ones and old ones in the relationship feel neglected or ignored. Even those TLC shows which discuss families like this had episodes where the husband wanted to add another wife and all the women in the household protested (Probably because what they had was barely working) If it worked, why are there no elderly polyamorous couples? I'm sure a few exist but if this was as normal and easy to make work as they made it out to be then wouldn't we see more?

Japanese YouTuber Ryuta Watanabe attempted to recreate the harem lifestyle from the anime The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You in real life. He built a polygamous household with multiple partners and fathered 11 children. For years he lived as a househusband supported entirely by their incomes. When the arrangement collapsed, he lost most of his partners, declared bankruptcy, and now cleans hotel bathrooms for roughly 10 dollars an hour. He has not abandoned his goal of eventually having a total of 54 children.
