It is not impossible to feel affection without love. Wise men do so routinely. we encounter ladies and enguage them carnally for it's own sake, while still recognizing the ones we truly love. No surplus sentiment or frivolous rumination. tracking back to the central thesis tho: affection might be free/gratis - granted. Sure. but love is engineered. And it is paid for, consciously or otherwise.
