Intermittent fasting at any time of day is effective for weight loss but no additional benefit over a Mediterranean diet. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Systematic review on the impact of resistance training in patients with #MASLD. Resistance training has better adherence than aerobic training and resulted in a significant reduction in liver fat, liver enzymes, and insulin resistance. journals.lww.com/eurojgh/abstra…

Thanks @ebtapper A challenging but important study given so many patients pre-Tx can’t eat (anywhere near) enough! Also demonstrated continued gains in HGS 💪 and anthropometry with increasing duration of NG feeds until ~4mth (by which time most pt were transplanted)

WOW @bc_diet did it! An RCT of tube feeds in people waiting for liver transplant 1️⃣everyone missing nutritional goals at baseline 2️⃣massive ⬆️in calories and protein 3️⃣⬆️strength and immune function pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38456800/ Not powered for clinical outcomes #livertwitter

@ebtapper I would add....in combination with improvements in dietary intake. We are seeing so many patients who stop alcohol but have no advice regarding dietary improvements and remain decompensated. The full potential for clinical improvements are not reached without Nutrition.

Things that often happen when people stop drinking alcohol: 1. Liver heals 2. Weight loss, sometimes lots of it 3. Better sleep 4. Improved sex life 5. Better mood, more hope 6. Longer life expectancy … And you make a hepatologist’s day

@bc_diet Absolutely!! We are seeing so many patients recompensate their liver disease due to improvements in nutritional status and meal pattern. Sitting on a wealth of data and would love to get some of it published! Great to see someone flying the flag for Dietetics 💪

@judebt20 Thanks @judebt20 ! It’s great to finally show these pre-LT patients can improve 💪 & nutrition status when they meet nutrition targets 🎯. ✅ Agree - the route of feeding doesn’t matter, it’s the ability to consistently meet the energy & protein goals that count.
