If you're worried about ticks, put up an owl box.
The animal driving most Lyme disease in the eastern US is the white-footed mouse. Ticks that feed on them are far more likely to come away infected than ticks that feed on other animals. The bigger the local mouse population, the worse the next year's tick year.
A single barred owl pair raising chicks can take hundreds of rodents in a breeding season. Owls also don't carry Lyme. The bacterium can't survive their digestive tract, so an owl that eats an infected mouse is a dead end for the disease.
Researchers at the Cary Institute, the leading lab on Lyme ecology, have been explicit about this: "Landscapes that support predators have reduced Lyme disease risk."
One owl box on its own isn't going to fix a tick year. But a yard with owls, foxes, bobcats, and weasels in it has fewer mice, and a yard with fewer mice has fewer infected ticks.
If you have woods or fields nearby, a properly sized barn owl or screech owl box (different species, different boxes) is one of the most useful single things you can do for tick exposure at the landscape scale. Match the box to the owl that lives near you.
The mouse is the problem, owls are the solution.

He reportedly passed out while in his racing simulator at home.
He was struggling to breathe, overheating and coughing up blood.
The coughing up blood has me concerned for a blood clot. Could be multiple reasons including the current infection, history of trauma to his leg a couple months ago and other factors (infections, vaccines) to name a few.
There’s a chance the sinus infection became pneumonia, which could have led to sepsis. A blood clot in his lung could have led to perfusion issues or even caused a heart attack (saddle embolus). x.com/TMZ_Sports/sta…

.@govpritzker I sent your office a detailed letter asking eleven basic questions about how Illinois policies and systemic failures contributed to the preventable death of my daughter Katie.
1. How did an illiterate illegal alien who could not read or write in any language obtain an Illinois driver’s license?
2. What safeguards existed to ensure he actually understood Illinois traffic laws and public-safety requirements?
3. How did Illinois agencies communicate with someone whose only language was K’iche’ and who could not speak English or Spanish?
4. Why did prior police contact, traffic violations, lack of insurance, missed court appearances, and ignored fines trigger no meaningful intervention before two people were killed?
5. What programs, if any, existed to help individuals with no literacy, education, or language skills assimilate safely into Illinois communities?
6. Why was a man using an alias and misrepresenting his nationality allowed to remain in Illinois despite federal authorities already knowing about the fraud?
7. Would even a minimal identity verification or background check have prevented this tragedy?
8. What medical-screening, monitoring, and public-health safeguards existed for individuals entering and residing in Illinois under these policies?
9. Why does Illinois refuse full cooperation with federal authorities even when those authorities possessed warning signs that could have prevented deaths?
10. What oversight, auditing, and identity-verification systems actually existed under Illinois sanctuary policies at the time Katie was killed?
11. Why has neither your office nor the State of Illinois ever reached out to our family to explain how these failures happened or how they will be prevented in the future?
Maybe I mistook your silence on Katie, and the questions I sent your office, as ignoring us.
Perhaps your staff simply decided this was not important enough to bring to your attention, which frankly may be a different conversation about your staff's competence and judgment.
And perhaps during the Congressional oversight hearings, on June 12, 2025, you were simply too overwhelmed defending policies that many Illinois families believe are indefensible.
If this was the cast, that too would be something voters should judge for themselves their Governor. But I have to say, when I testified before Senate subcommittee hearings on Immigration, regarding Katie’s death, I personally did not find telling the truth particularly difficult or taxing. Perhaps that makes things easier.
In any case, since my original letter to your office may have been overlooked, I am posting a summary publicly again so your communications staff, social-media team, and advisors can ensure it reaches you.
I am still willing to have an adult conversation about how a lifelong Illinoisan lost his youngest daughter to a preventable violent death under policies your administration continues to defend.

We, Republicans, are voiceless. We have virtually no representation tied to our taxation.
In the last national election, roughly 2.48 million Illinois voters cast ballots for Republicans(40,000+ more, than have ever voted for JB Pritzker!) Yet the Democrat supermajority carved up Illinois’ U.S. Congressional, State House, and State Senate districts in ways that fractured Republican voting blocs and minimized meaningful opposition representation. (46% of voters are republican, yet; we only hold 3 out of 17 congressional districts, that’s a representation of only 17.647%. And state house and senate are worse, ask your selves why⁉️)
That is not good governance. It is fundamentally unfair, and it was intentionally imposed on the taxpayers and citizens of Illinois.
Illinois is now nationally known as one of the most aggressively gerrymandered states in America. If you support this simply because it benefits your political side, then credibility on “fairness” and “democracy” is lost. At some point, principle and integrity must matter more than partisan advantage.

It is 💯 morally inappropriate for a married woman, who is not Charlie’s wife, to publicly discuss intimate details about him, particularly when he is dead and his widow is still alive and raising their children.
There is a line between commentary and exploitation, and this crosses it. Discussing politics, public statements, or even disagreements is one thing. Sitting around dissecting a dead man’s marriage, hinting at improprieties, implying betrayal, and turning deeply personal family matters into entertainment for clicks and engagement is something entirely different.
What makes it worse is the self righteousness attached to it all. You cannot claim to stand for family values, morality, Christianity, decency, or protecting children while simultaneously feeding millions of people intimate gossip about a husband and wife whose children will one day read every word of it online. Those children did not ask for this. His widow did not ask for this.
A grieving widow should not have to wake up every day wondering what new insinuation, rumor, or “just asking questions” segment is going to be blasted out to millions of viewers next. There is nothing brave about it. There is nothing journalistic about it. It is gossip packaged as righteousness.
At some point people need to ask themselves what they are actually consuming and supporting. Because when someone profits from tearing apart the intimate details of a dead man’s marriage while his family is still trying to survive unimaginable loss, that is not truth seeking. That is cruelty for the sake of cruelty!
And since when did “journalism” become gossiping about whether Charlie was a virgin or claiming he only dated Erika to make another girl jealous?
That is not investigative reporting. That is middle school gossip with a microphone. It’s morally bankrupt.
A man was murdered, children lost their father, and somehow people turned the conversation into psychoanalyzing his dating life for clicks and engagement. It’s so grotesque.
