So what I put forward is a kind of “noble, martyrdom theory” and it was a counterpoint to a lot of what I think could be more damaging speculation. The notion is also meant to explain why the U.S. was able to penetrate Caracas with such minimal resistance, an inconsistency that does need explaining. I personally don’t buy that the U.S. is so superior that they would have been able to just chopper in without nary but one manpad getting fired, but maybe that’s just me
