Crime in South Africa Two Murders in Two Days - 2 year old boy and 52-year old farmer The violent crime spree by the four alleged perpetrators started on Friday, 6 December 2024. According to a confession by the 21 year old woman, one of the alleged suspects, they picked up her 2 year old nephew in Reddersburg in the Free State on the 6th. The little boy was violently assaulted, including being kicked during the trip and again at a farm in Goedemoed where they spent the night. The following morning the child was assaulted again and then his unconscious body was wrapped in a curtain and discarded on the farm in the Goedemoed district. On the afternoon of the 7th, the alleged perpetrators went to a farm in the Goedemoed area where they shot and killed a 52 year old farmer. The farmer’s wife (45) was allegedly raped by one of the perpetrators. After pillaging the house, the farmer’s wife was kidnapped. The victim was driven from town to town in the couple’s stolen vehicle and forced to draw money. At 7 am on the 8th, the Rouxville farming community alerted SAPS that there had been a farmer killed. When SAPS arrived on the scene they found the body of the farmer who had been shot in the head. The vehicle was tracked down to a farm in the Tygerpoort, the traumatised victim was still with the suspects. The victim was rescued and one of the alleged suspects was shot and died in hospital. The other suspects, two women and a man, were taken into custody. According to the 21 year old suspect’s confession, it was the deceased who violently assaulted her two year old nephew. Police went to the farm where they found the 2-year old’s bruised body wrapped in a blue curtain. This violent crime spree would have most likely continued if it wasn’t for the combined efforts of the community, SAPS and initiatives like the Eyes and Ears Initiative.
