CEO @AlderHeyCharity, Fiona Ashcroft, responds to the Budget and what scrapping the two-child limit from April 2026 will mean for children and young people. Massive shout-out to all of the tireless campaigners who have called on the Government to end this policy. #PutChildrenFirst.

The people in the ‘trigger me timbers’ WhatsApp group are utterly revolting. None of them should be councillors or MPs. But I’ve seen the Labour right up close for years. This is the norm. Almost all of them are like this. Any wonder the country is in such a state?

A lesson in moral leadership and courage. Our government would do well to listen and learn.

“I’m sorry that your voice has not been fully heard and that justice has not been done the way we all hoped,” - Angela Dawes, mother of Kiena This story reveals the horrific abuse that led to Kiena’s tragic suicide. This is murder in slow motion. ➡️ theguardian.com/society/2025/j…

Carabao is the greatest League Cup sponsor ever. Nostalgia merchants will throw Milk, Coca-Cola, and Carling at you, but an energy drink from Thailand, which no one has ever tasted, perfectly encapsulates the spirit of this competition.

‘These girls have been used enough by angry men… and yet here it is, happening again.’ @suzanne_moore on the hypocrisy of political outrage over grooming gangs, exposing decades of failures, neglect of abused girls, and the root issue: male violence. ➡️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/0…

The thing is for women on the left feminism is experienced as a tacked on side issue. It’s always feminism AND something else. Feminism is good because it can promote ecological sustainability! Feminism is good for women and men! Feminism is good because it’s supports workers rights! It’s is completely and totally inconceivable to them that a feminist could care about women and girls because they are women and girls, not because of an another issue or a tacked on identity. Feminism is only thought of in terms of utility towards a broader project. That’s why the left can only think of the grooming gang scandal as a response to Reform or a right wing line, because it would be totally unthinkable to them to care about harm to women and girls without some other political motive. It’s a projection.

I wrote this poem in 1993 when there was public outrage at how a Judge spoke about a 9 year old rape victim. More than 30 years later the poem is still painfully relevant. Is it too much to ask that as a society we might fully value and protect our girls?

My heart is warmed by the number of men (rapists, sexual harassers, blatant misogynists) who now seem to have seen the light and are passionately concerned about the endemic rape and abuse of girls by pimping gangs.
