@charlesmenzies@marktmaclean I could be convinced if I had the recipe, but without it I must insist that peanut butter is best as a base for delectable and savoury sauce. The toast delivery system is adequate but fails to take full advantage of the prime ingredient.
@MissIngridS#Etec681 felt a bit discombobulated, disconnected, just trying to keep up with everyone's responses and my replies to questions. It feels like a forum where you post the first thing that comes to mind, that's how I felt anyway.
@MissIngridS It's important not to take things personally and being open to constructive feedback. Thinking before one shares. Like I tell my grade 4 students, "Not everything that goes on in your mind needs to be shared out loud." :)) #ETEC681
Q5: How do we present topics that are confrontational and divisive, but nonetheless imperative points of discussion? Particularly when we lose the f2f context cues (people don’t ‘look’ offended in chat rooms)? #ETEC681
@JessicaAnnel7 These sound like good ideas to me, basically acknowledging the difficult topic and laying out ground rules that foster a respectful interaction.
A5 Following a protocol: setting ground rules, give permission to be excused, decide how to discuss the topic as a group before even starting the discussion, offering options for the people that might result affected to interact in an asynchronous or impersonal way #ETEC681
@MLVillella@MissIngridS I definitely agree that I feel more connected when I can see people's faces, I tend to keep Zoom on gallery mode. (And sorry I don't have mine on right now!) #Etec681
Q3: What apps, technologies, platforms, or instructional approaches have you experienced—as a teacher or student—that helped you feel part of an online classroom community? #ETEC681
@CharlotteDuroc5@MissIngridS Yes, my main experiences are on Moodle, Google docs and Zoom. Not a fan of Moodle but love Google docs for collaboration and Zoom is pretty great for connecting and communicating. #ETEC681
@MissIngridS R4: I wouldn't say it's dead, it's just taken a backseat to other formats like Twitter. I think it has its place for tight-knit online communities of learning or practice and it's best suited for an in-depth discussion of a particular topic.
Not my favorite honestly #ETEC681
@MissIngridS My original tweet said hate and die to asynch msg boards but Usama made a good point that they have use in specific communities of practice for example. In fact, I realized that I am part of a asynch board for parents and I live it, I consult it all the time. #Etec681
