@Sauers_ @elvecent_not Because it is not modeling the conditional token distribution of the training corpus. After post-training, the model embodies some other, difficult to describe distribution. AFAIK, this distribution is also not necessarily well-behaved when applied to the user turn.

There's a subset of people who literally think LLMs just predict the most likely next token. I wonder if they ask themselves "if they're predicting the most likely next token, then why do they respond to me as a ChatBot Assistant™ instead of continuing the text, responding as me?"

@Sauers_ @elvecent_not When you set up this conversation on the web interface, what the LLM actually sees is something like: <start user turn>When I go to the store, I usually<end user turn> <start assistant turn> And so it tries to predict the first token in the assistant's turn of the conversation.

We can test this hypothesis! If we imagine a sentence fragment, such as: "When I go to the store, I usually" the most likely next token(s) is something like "buy some food." (Or some other continuation of the sentence.) We can prompt various LLMs with the sentence fragment to see if they reply with a likely next token (see below)--they don't, though.

@enderw6rst @Hylis1 It used to be 11-25 for silver, right? And TMWT E for gold and master. That being said, I would already be happy with 11-25 for gold and master. No more high level ranked matches on white maps would be great!

For the servers, it was a coincidence of million+ mini files that accumulated over 4 years but reached a limit on the 24th night. Great. It was both master and dedicated servers while having people on well deserved holidays. PS : Let's look at ranked maps if we can.

@GranaDyy I also think it makes a lot of sense. That way, the regular campaign can focus on fundamentals and a good experience in matchmaking and the shorts are a nice way to play on some more whacky maps. Although I'm not sure this is a trend, maybe next campaign will be different again.

I miss exactly the things that make the Weekly Shorts special. I guess with having these special maps every week now, they decided to dedicate the normal campaign to regular driving. Makes absolute sense in my opinion, just makes it less interesting for me personally 😄

Winter 2025 Campaign: Map quality: 9/10 Creativity: 5/10 Variety: 2/10 Great maps but they all feel the same to me. Compared to Fall 2024 the lack of variety is very noticeable. Barely any interesting maps for me personally but I guess (and hope) many will actually love it 😄

@GranaDyy A high level of competition is really important, I think. I remember seeing you discover the ascenion maps as they were released. And then, a few weeks later at the event, it was insanely impressive to see just how good you had gotten at driving these really difficult maps.

Today on stream we spoke about something interesting: How would you guys like it when more major Trackmania competitions would be about fast-learning rather than releasing maps multiple weeks prior to the tournament? 🤔

@GranaDyy Another advantage: With early map releases, the people who make most of their living doing Twitch and YouTube now have to cut down on that in order to be able to compete (because training takes a lot of time and is secret and/or boring to watch), creating a conflict.

Advantages of it: -less grinding needed (more fair for non-fulltime players) -more interesting to watch (arguably) -less issues with different tournaments overlapping -another dimension of TM skill included

@TheForgottenIce @Trackmania I agree. I understand that breaking old maps is really bad. But the reason given for breaking them was to make wood less confusing. With this, for many maps we have a similar situation as if it was never changed at all, but even more confusing, in my opinion.

@Trackmania IMO this is more confusing than just keeping the old concrete wood. Now the same surface will act differently depending on when the track was made. How is that more intuitive?

From January 9th, with the Winter update, the wood surface will be updated with the following: ➡️ Tracks created before November 21st will have the old concrete wood gameplay. ➡️ Tracks created after November 21st will have the new wood gameplay with grip. Please note that if you edit a track created before November 21st: ➡️ Until the update on January 9th, it will have the new wood gameplay with grip. ➡️ After the update on January 9th, it will have the old concrete wood gameplay. All unbeatable records made on tracks since November 21st will be handled after the January 9th update.

Nintendo recently announced its updated Community Tournament Guidelines in the US and UK. These guidelines have several implications for community operated tournaments including tournaments within the Smash scene. A 🧵

@ArmadaUGS What is the legal basis for this? I'm fairly certain copyright law does not extent so far that the copyright holder gets to decide how people run grassroots tournaments. Or is that different in Japan?

Seems like an approval is needed if you intend to go pass 200 entrance for tournaments in Japan.... here we go again. Fuck Nintendo, they are like a 5 year old screaming for attention at all times when it comes to competitive Smash.

@That_Ski_Freak @Trackmania This is particularly frustrating because it does not have to be a tradeoff. Ranked can have different map pools (and maybe even different formats) for bronze/silver and gold/master. It can be accessible for new players and challenging for experienced players *at the same time*.

So, @trackmania cares more about newer players than experienced ones. Fair enough. The problem is that every inch of the game caters to new players, and nothing seems to be for more experienced ones. Ranked must cater to new players COTD must cater to new players campaign...

@TmAmaterasu @Trackmania I really do not understand why gold players went from getting TMWT maps to not even being allowed on black campaign maps. I am a gold 1 player and I really enjoyed the TMWT maps last season. They provide a much beefier experience than the campaign maps.

@TmAmaterasu @Trackmania I think it is important to focus on the players that are willing to put a lot of time into the game. Those are the players that will actually buy the subscription and keep playing for years. It is strange to optimize the experience for players who only launch the game once.

@CommCampaignsTM The maps look stunning, but it looks like all that scenery comes at a price. The official campaign is pretty much locked at 144fps for me, while this one has performance issues on most maps, often dipping below 50fps and also stuttering in some spots.
