@stevehouf Steve: we have a paper on this: Inflation forecasting from cross-sectional stocks. en.saif.sjtu.edu.cn/junpan/inflati…
English

Inflation sensitive equities (as captured in the Bloomberg inflation sensitive equity index) are ticking up again, relative to the broader market. [Inflation sensitive equities are identified on stock betas on commodities and inflation breakevens.]
If you believe that inflation is making a return later this year but high nominal growth is still supportive of equities in general, maybe it's worth allocating more to inflation sensitive equities.

Denis had been a generous friend to a lot of people...only wishing I had been a better friend for him.
I had always thought that I would had plenty of time to visit Denis again in Paris. Now it's never. With the loss of Denis, Paris is not the same, nor is the world.

I was very excited to see that Bloomberg has a liquidity index on Treasuries, only to find out that this is in fact the noise measure of Hu, Pan, Wang (2013). Hi, @Bloomberg @markets , a citation to our contribution would be appreciated.

@ForeignPolicy Great respect to Chancellor Merkel, a true leader who is honest to herself and her people.

English

@ForeignPolicy Articles such as this one often make me wonder: How much of the real China does the author really know? Where do they find the courage to express their personal opinion with such resolute confidence? Will the history books be kind to them after all?
English

Merkel’s approach to China no longer reflects the consensus in Germany or in Europe, where positions have hardened substantially over the past year, Noah Barkin writes.

@NewYorker Thanks for the stories, narrated from the ground up. Indeed, details of the individual lives matter. After all, a country is made collectively by its people, and a year, as bad as 2020, by the passing seconds.

“The Chinese lockdown was more intense than almost anywhere else in the world,” writes Peter Hessler, who teaches at Sichuan University. It wasn’t unheard-of for a door to be sealed shut during contact-tracing if a family was suspected of exposure. nyer.cm/DJxzwtS

@paulmozur @nytimes : Some of your journalists would stretch the truth at any length just to get their articles published. They are costing you your credibility. The nytimes “Caliphate” podcast is such an example.

@paulmozur The world's best system of disinformation sits not in Moscow, not in Beijing, but at New York Times.

The world's best system of disinformation sits not in Moscow, but Beijing. A new leak shows how Beijing pulled on specialized software, censors, trolls, snitches, and police to exert precise control over the early narrative of the coronavirus pandemic. nytimes.com/2020/12/19/tec…

@PIIE @LHSummers @USTreasury “Much in all of this will depend on how the US-China relationship evolves, which is beyond the scope of this memo. Broadly, your challenge will be to take the temperature down at a time when there is a bipartisan tendency to suppose that a wish list constitutes a strategy.”
English

.@LHSummers writes to the Biden administration's Secretary of the @USTreasury, saying that "no Treasury Secretary since World War II has faced so diverse and consequential a set of international challenges."
