I clearly remember Ruth Smeeth standing up in the Commons chamber and scoffing at suggestions and innuendo that she was a “spy”. That was the word she used. Here’s an excellent article by @kennardmatt that seriously suggests that Ruth Smeeth was/is indeed an American and Israeli intelligence asset with her links to The @CIA funded British American Project (BAP) and the British Israel Communications and Research Centre (BICOM). The BAP was founded in the 1980s out the U.S. Embassy in London due to concerns that The Labour Party was moving too far to the left. Its funders include @BAESystemsInc BP and, according to some, the CIA. Three current Labour members of the BAP are the Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, Birkenhead MP Alison McGovern and Rushanara Ali - MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney. Anas Sarwar joined the BAP in 2018 and has called the organisation his ‘“special family”.” Alison McGovern joined in October 2022 and has been funded by the BAP to attend at least one of its functions in the United States. Rushanara Ali’s association with the BAP is particularly interesting. According to the article by @kennardmatt and @declassifiedUK Rushanara Ali was effectively recruited by the BAP back in 2004 when she was working as a Home Office staffer. Rushanara Ali became an MP in 2010 and was particularly critical of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership (as was the BAP). She supported the 2016 coup against Corbyn and called on him to ‘“do the decent thing and resign”.’ Rushanara Ali now sits on the advisory board of the British American Project alongside the former head of MI6 John Sawers. But it is further information on Ruth Smeeth provided by Matt Kennard that is particularly striking. We have seen the recent furore over the revelations that Peter Mandelson and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor were leaking sensitive state information to Jeffrey Epstein. In On April 20th 2009, Ruth Smeeth passed insider information to the U.S. Embassy that Gordon Brown would be calling for an election. That proposed election didn’t actually take place until the following year but Smeeth’s information was nevertheless classified as ‘“confidential”’ and ‘“not for foreign eyes.”’ At the time, Smeeth wasn’t an MP but a Labour candidate for the Burton constituency. So who was she working for? Who passed her this information? Why did she covertly pass it to the U.S. Embassy and the CIA? All very intriguing indeed. Considering the intensity and persistence of Ruth Smeeth’s attacks on Jeremy Corbyn, the ‘stunts’ she was involved in around that time, one can’t help but ask if she was working to an agenda determined by agencies outside of The Labour Party.
