@JerusalemKing_ Arrow 3! DroneDome will get more important, ally nations should be buying it along with SkySonic, starting with US bases overseas. C-RAM will get out-volumed sooner rather than later by small drones. Data sharing across DroneDome and other systems/weapons @Picogrid would be huge.

@83dollaroring Castelion has some exceptional lobbyists and the missiles fly. What’s the issue? I’m glad to see a new company competing for these contracts

Ornadyne makes surveillance birds, won’t be long until autonomous C-UAS tech is trained on actual birds and area around bases is closed to all fauna. Looking forward to seeing the first drone bird to carry a payload @warheadco and how companies respond

@BowTiedNiners @CMDRSpiff Correct you are, who would’ve thought that McDonnell Douglas execs would’ve slowed down Boeing???
English

@CMDRSpiff Internal , it became a company ran by business people and not engineers
Their most competent division is in St. Louis
Not shocking it it’s full of Ex McDonnell Douglas engineers

Best thing about working in aerospace is the collaborations between orgs
DARPA, AFRL, Northrop and flight test at Edwards are all filled with the best engineers in the world
DARPA@DARPA
We recently flew the XRQ-73 hybrid-electric unmanned aircraft in collaboration with @AFResearchLab and @northropgrumman at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. Part of the SHEPARD program, the flight proves the military utility of hybrid-electric propulsion. ✈️⚡️

@KhalidIQ2021 @DARPA @AFResearchLab @northropgrumman Crazy. Here’s a cooler picture of it from a Northrop Grumman article from 2024.

English

@KhalidIQ2021 @DARPA @AFResearchLab @northropgrumman This is RQ-72 from AFRL/IARPA’s 2011 Great Horned Owl program to make a quiet/hybrid surveillance plane. It first went into production in 2017 as XRQ-72A, then the project became LHO, then in 2024, DARPA’s XQR-73, for Series Hybrid Electric Propulsion AiRcraft Demonstration! :)

@BowTiedNiners So closed-minded, I’m no moral relativist but what matters is subjective. Undergrad racing programs are also great a great skill builder, and defense companies know it. They sponsor teams with money and materials, expired prepreg is a big one

My previous tweet about engineers working on airplanes vs cars rings as true as ever
Instead of building race cars you can be designing things that matter

rebuilding the shuttles but in the burt rutan style and watching every single one explode on ascent in a ball of trash at exactly 232,000 ft

Typed “li” into my browser and lightpollutionmap.app (for finding camping spots minimum distance from urban center) came up before LinkedIn.com, what a wonderful sight

One of the largest quality of life discoveries I've had is that I can work as a mechanical engineer with a thin MacBook remoting into a beefy workstation. Modern desktop streaming apps and a good internet connection are magical. Laptops were never meant to be workstations.

software engineering: *macbook air* mechanical engineering: *pulling 40lb laptop out of bag* it’s called the HP Fury G1i Mega-Victory Edition. it has mandatory RGB and a 25 minute battery life
English

@BowTiedNiners I agree, but watch the recent IMSA Laguna Seca GTP highlights. More tangible competition, shorter timelines, organization-wide motivation to excel. The FIA is controlling like the govt on rules/regulations, but has its fingers in the team less than govt bureaucracy.
English

Unpopular opinion but I don’t like how many talented aerodynamics engineers go to cars/F-1 instead of weapons/military airplanes
Minimal aerodynamic improvement for something that ultimately that doesn’t matter
You shaved off 0.1 seconds on the race track
Now what?
