Want the real story on Ja'Kobi Lane? Here's what Todd Heap and Torrey Smith said about the Ravens' third-round rookie. "I've been watching this kid make plays since he was 13 years old. ... He probably has the most upside of just about any receiver in this draft." -- Todd Heap

Chris Haynes on Anthony Davis’ future with the Wizards: “He’s at a place right now [in Washington} where he can’t afford to play two years to not compete … I do think there's a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts" (via @SiriusXMNBA)

Anthony Davis could be traded again, per @ChrisBHaynes "I do think there's a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts" (Via @SiriusXMNBA / h/t @Fullcourtpass )

Gerrit Cole goes in-depth on his new over-the-head windup, which he picked up while playing catch with Yankees PT & Rehab Coordinator Joe Bello last summer. “I just generally enjoy the rhythm of it. I think it keeps the tempo of the delivery kind of upbeat and fluid.”

The Lakers, Bulls, and Nets are potential suitors for Peyton Watson, per @TheSteinLine “League sources have already identified the Lakers, Bulls and Nets as potential suitors that are likely to have the requisite spending power to present an offer sheet that causes angst in the Rocky Mountains. The Stein Line has learned, in fact, that both the Lakers and Bulls registered trade interest in Watson leading up to the in-season deadline for deals on Feb. 5, although it must be noted that Chicago's front office will soon have a new lead voice after the recent ouster of former Nuggets executive Artūras Karnišovas.” (Via marcstein.substack.com)

Am I alone in not totally hating this? It isn’t perfect and I think the outrage over tanking this year is generally overblown and a symptom of the quality of this class, but this at least forces teams to try, which is a gross thing to say. It’ll probably make it a lot tougher for the really bad teams to make a quick fix, but we keep seeing the same teams in the bottom 5 every year anyways.

The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick. ESPN details: espn.com/nba/story/_/id…
