Made a voronoi chart of liver proteins. Something i learned; a lot of livers are high in glutamic acid; glutamate is central in metabolism, and the liver is the body’s nitrogen-processing factory When amino acids are broken down, their nitrogen forms glutamate

A series of radar charts comparing the vitamins offered in plant milks, and how much of your daily recommended intake is met by 100g It looks like oat milk offers the least, and the other three are optimized for different things. Personally, I've switched over to almond milk

Syrups are basically liquid sugar, so I charted the sugar-water ratio to visualize how it differs across different plant/tree species. It's not a comprehensive list, but it's something that's helping me find a better alternative to white sugar because...idk, it's white sugar.

I compared eel and salmon together for a proof-of-concept of these flowcharts. The two have a lot in common - they're both high in water, for example - but the differences are there, if not nuanced. No surprise to anyone that eel is a little fattier.

Not all salmon is created equally, as demonstrated by these radar charts. I made them a few years back, and while I would change a few things, still interesting to see. What the hell is going on with sockeye salmon?

A treemap isn't the clearest way to compare values with each other, but it is fun way to look at data. here are all the amino acids found in raw pink salmon, and you can see the list is pretty distributed

This isn't as comprehensive of a list as it probably should be, but the trend is suggesting that liver has more vitamins than other parts of the body. and, biologically , we know that's true

Is bacon a protein? This is a metaphorical discussion more than a scientific one, but that idea is simple; some animal products are fats, some are proteins. No one would consider a butter sandwich to be valid...but where does the line actually begin and end? Is a BLT valid?

Just a reminder that almonds are mostly filled with fat, which kind of breaks my brain because I don’t usually associate them with being fatty

A subtle data problem I keep running into isn’t bad data; it’s categories. Categories feel authoritative because they come from somewhere upstream, but it's important to remember that data is always recorded from somewhere, and human context matters

We are living through a golden age of vaccine development. worksinprogress.co/issue/the-gold… We can now visualize pathogens down to atoms; design vaccines in weeks; manufacture them in microbial factories; engineer them more precise than ever before. The future holds even greater breakthroughs, but only if we continue to invest in them.

“storytelling” has become a buzzword for glorified content engineering but after a year of making videos, i don’t think the future of content is better optimization at all creation has become careless to cut through, storytellers must do the opposite: treat creating something for another human as an act of care. care shows up in how intentionally you: shape the message commit to the process in 2 years, made with intention will be as legible as “shot on film” moments from 365 days of storytelling. here’s to many more ❤️
