Wrote a blog on the many differences between data centers, one of which is the amount of electricity used for cooling It's defined by a metric called PUE, and apparently, the lower the PUE (eg the lower the cooling costs), the better the data center

I wrote a few weeks ago on the complexity of bacon's classification of a food; should it be treated as a fat or a protein? The answer is that its a little bit of both. Here's a comparison of bacon with other fencesitters

I don't know why I'm surprised that neither granulated or brown sugar have any moisture...but here you have it

The conversations around AI and its environmental impact has always been confusing for me to follow. After reading a few blogs, here's my attempt at charting the impact on water Unfortunately (or fortunately), AI is not the biggest user

This list of amino acids and their corresponding taste profiles is so interesting It's so cool to realize that so much of cooking and food science is chemistry

Made this chart showing the minerals in different forms of cabbage. As a reminder, salt is a mineral No surprise that the raw version seems to have the healthiest micronutrient profile

Made a voronoi chart of liver proteins. Something i learned; a lot of livers are high in glutamic acid; glutamate is central in metabolism, and the liver is the body’s nitrogen-processing factory When amino acids are broken down, their nitrogen forms glutamate

A series of radar charts comparing the vitamins offered in plant milks, and how much of your daily recommended intake is met by 100g It looks like oat milk offers the least, and the other three are optimized for different things. Personally, I've switched over to almond milk

Syrups are basically liquid sugar, so I charted the sugar-water ratio to visualize how it differs across different plant/tree species. It's not a comprehensive list, but it's something that's helping me find a better alternative to white sugar because...idk, it's white sugar.

What's the most popular nut in the world? Well, the data is a bit sparse, but it seems like there's a three-way race happening with cashews, walnuts, and almonds

this recent radar chart on liver got a shout out in datawrapper's newsletter 😄 here it is for y'all's viewing pleasure reminder that liver is really healthy because, in a lot of animals, it stores a bunch of vitamins

I compared eel and salmon together for a proof-of-concept of these flowcharts. The two have a lot in common - they're both high in water, for example - but the differences are there, if not nuanced. No surprise to anyone that eel is a little fattier.

Not all salmon is created equally, as demonstrated by these radar charts. I made them a few years back, and while I would change a few things, still interesting to see. What the hell is going on with sockeye salmon?

A treemap isn't the clearest way to compare values with each other, but it is fun way to look at data. here are all the amino acids found in raw pink salmon, and you can see the list is pretty distributed
