Just throwing this one out there as I was asked this question earlier today. A couple both working with a combined income of £50,000 would pay £11,500 a year in income tax and national insurance, Another couple receiving £50,000 in benefits including Universal Credit, Personal Independent Payment, Housing Benefit, Income Support and Child Benefit would pay no income tax or national insurance, keeping the full £50,000. Should the non-working couple on £50,000 a year pay the same amount of income tax and national insurance as the working couple? Please leave a comment below.

ACAS and Unite Senior officers agreed a statement on the 22nd April to be discussed with the Community members on Thursday 23rd April only to find it had been changed. @Hairyloon @UniteSharon Members took part in a ballot to keep our affiliation to Labour and keep a political fund. Members have not been consulted about disaffiliation to Labour. Why?

@jvarnam @UniteSharon They squander it by paying the Labour Party for affiliation. They are squandering it on fines instead, which is probably an improvement.

@ChrisCorney1 @UniteSharon They are not donations from Labour they are fees that members make to allow Unite to have a political fund. Without that fund a lot of things that benefit our members would not happen.

Unite will pay any fines from money allocated to Labour Party affiliation fee - quite right too! Some of the remaining affiliation money will go to the Birmingham bin workers' strike fund. @UKLabour, you are making yourselves look like idiots.
