Well mostly not in the next ten anyway. Srsly. Going out for a few hours, inhaling all these in one dose could be fatal.

I got to see Petrol & Diesel price controls in action visiting Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 in 2003. The Results: - No availability - Flourishing black market (at huge mark ups) - Associated racketeering - Industry & transport paralysis Things might be grim now but they can always get worse

Seems to be some ballyhoo in the commentary on @AusElectoralCom proposed #politas redistribution. Page 12 of the report is the most telling graph of why southern electorates need major adjustment #politas

Merger musings taking a chunk of #politas attention this week Lots of calls for more reports, studies etc A reminder that the most in depth, widely consultative process ever was completed earlier this #lgtas term futurelocal.tas.gov.au

@shannon_wells Helps if there was another submission from someone with a similar name You on the other hand would surly have less issues with name confusion

@KosSamaras I see the perennially played US card and raise you Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. The latter is the closest equivalent democracy to Australia and has better contests of ideas come election time.

My opinion piece in the Financial Review. Our compulsory voting system rewards the centre and it rejects imported fringe politics from the U.S. "Our compulsory voting system, unique among major English-speaking democracies, creates a gravitational pull toward the centre that the Coalition has failed to navigate. While voluntary voting systems allow parties to win by mobilising their base, Australia’s system demands broad appeal. You cannot win by firing up 30 per cent of the population – you must speak to the disengaged, the moderate, and the undecided. This structural reality bolts Australia to the centre, rewarding parties that build broad coalitions rather than those that retreat to ideological purity. The Coalition’s recent flirtations with culture war politics imported from voluntary voting systems fundamentally misunderstand this Australian reality. While such tactics might energise a base in the United States, here they alienate the suburban families who decide elections." Link to the full essay in this thread.

The home deposit scheme increases prices because it increases demand without a subsequent supply increase. Just basic economics.
