The cynicism & hyper partisanship on this site can be exhausting. I see criticism of Conservatives like @erinotoole & @lraitt for agreeing to serve on the Prime Minister’s Canada-US relations advisory panel. Some say it represents “patronage.” To be clear, membership on advisory panels like this are not paid positions. Sometimes they will offer modest per diems for longer meetings requiring travel. But there is no material reward for participating in work like this. If anything it represents an opportunity cost for busy people who give up paid work or billable time in order to participate. In other words, it’s not patronage. Cynics, brace yourself: perhaps what motivates people to set aside partisanship and do voluntary work like this is an authentic sense of duty, of public service that puts country ahead of party. To the partisans who think it’s disloyal to accept a role like this: please remember that severely normal Canadians do not see the world through your hyper partisan lens. They expect Canadians to work together across party lines to help defend the country from external threats, like Donald Trump’s aggression. (Remember Stephen Harper appointing John Manley to lead the advisory panel on the Afghan military deployment; or appointing Gary Doer Ambassador to the US.) Finally, to Conservatives: one of the most unattractive feature of the contemporary left is its tendency to politicize absolutely everything. Don’t repeat their error. Conservatism is not a rigid ideological doctrine requiring loyalty tests and the demonization of our political adversaries.

The fact that Erin O'Toole and Lisa Raitt are willing to step up and serve on this advisory committee reinforces that Conservatives are willing to put differences aside and collaborate for the good of the country when appropriate. With real actions, not just words. That's good for Canada and will be good for the party.

Some conservatives commenting negatively on @erinotoole joining No Accountability Carney’s 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 Advisory Committee. Erin is a great Canadian, has experience & balances out people like Magali Picard. We need him there. Also, just stop already. Service to your country is good.

@mattgurney True. CPC in trouble. Carney has a majority and Ontarians like parties of a different stripe at QP and Parliament Hill.

He's still probably going to end up winning a fourth majority, which is the funniest/saddest part.

Maybe it’s not Pierre Poilievre that’s the problem. Maybe it wasn’t Andrew Scheer who was the problem. Maybe it wasn’t Erin O’Toole who was the problem. Maybe it’s the heavily subsidized Liberal boot licking legacy media that’s the problem. Maybe we’ll wake up some day.

B'nai Brith Canada@bnaibrithcanada

B’nai Brith Canada thanks MPP @MichelleC_PC for her leadership in progressing the fight against hate and strengthening protections for targeted communities. We also extend our appreciation to all MPPs who supported her motion that the Government of Ontario should establish a special prosecution unit for hate crimes. Your commitment sends a clear and necessary message: hate has no place in Ontario, and it must be met with serious and coordinated action. From the outset, B’nai Brith Canada has supported this motion and its objective to improve the Province’s ability to effectively investigate and prosecute hate crimes. This is an essential step toward ensuring accountability and safeguarding communities that are increasingly targeted. Now, we call on the Attorney General to act without delay and move forward with the development of a dedicated special prosecution unit for hate crimes. This is a long-overdue measure that would significantly strengthen Ontario’s capacity to respond to hate-motivated offences with the seriousness they demand.

🚨 WOW University of Guelph just banned a young woman FOR LIFE from campus. Her crime? Standing NEAR a conversation she wasn’t even part of. Her family member was talking to a group of people. She was in the vicinity. That’s it. The Campus Safety Office decided the TOPIC of that conversation was sufficient grounds for a lifetime ban. Not her words. Not her actions. A conversation she was LISTENING to. Soon, having the wrong opinions NEAR YOU is gonna be a crime. OH WAIT, TOO LATE - SHE GOT BANNED!

It's clear these humans transcended to a certain consciousness most of us can't understand yet. In other words they sound high. High on truth. "I love ALL of you (humanity)" (Victor Glover) "It's a special thing to be a human, and it's a special thing to be on planet Earth" (Reid Wiseman) Listening to the crew, it's clear they've experienced the clarity you can only feel when you're very, very close to death. They saw how humans live on a tiny, fragile orb in a sea of vast, seemingly unending, lifelessness, on the edge of death. In seeing how alone we all are, in seeing how close to non-existence all of us are, they saw how special we are. "In all this blackness, tiny Earth is just a lifeboat hanging in the universe" (Christina Koch) They saw how singularly unique in our region of the cosmos the existence of life is. That's how they learned the meaning of everything: "Gratitude. Joy. Love." (Jeremy Hansen) #Artemis2

Lisa Raitt doesn’t flinch after saying “I have this vision in my head of Mark Carney as the Pied Piper, he's got the flute and he's whistling all these people across but in reality, don't forget, the Pied Piper, he attracted RATS" She’s not wrong.

I’m guessing the Liberals never read Marylin Gladu’s book Globe Trot. Lots of more interesting things in this book beyond talking about out meeting a “burly black man” with really white teeth. She also talks about Jewish names, drinking and driving, Thailand and more.

When Vic Rauter started on curling, he knew nothing about the sport. He watched the best voices on video at the time before his 1st season. He took up the game before his 2nd season. And wasn’t afraid to ask questions on air. There’s a lesson for any sportscaster from a great one
