@HolySmokas What crash? I don’t see it. In 1982, the S&P was $108. Was also $108 in 1968. People today are so weak

When the stock market is in a correction or crash you have 3 options as an investor. Let me explain the best option mathematically. 1. Sell it all. With this option you dump some of your stocks or sell out of your portfolio completely. 2…see more

@AskXeela @rektfencer That 400% is largely caused by FED policies starting in 2007. Endless QE. Easy money policies. Low rates. Just look at the FED balance sheet since 2008. That’s where your gains came from. Market socialism.

Imagine buying the S&P 500 in 2000. You hold for 13 years. By 2013, you are at ZERO gains. Meanwhile, inflation destroys 50% of your purchasing power. Now ask yourself: What if this happens again?

@AlastairGrayson @Emmas_Ragdoll @SaveStandard How are children supposed to play evening sports when both their parents must work until 5. Any discussion of standard time MUST include discussion around summer work hours. There should not be 5 hours of work after 12 and only 3 hours before noon.

If you invested in the S&P 500 in 2000 and held it until 2013, you broke even. 13 years, no profit, and you lost 50% to inflation. Think about it for a second.

@Gubloinvestor They invested well, bought the right stocks, or got lucky. Regardless, hope that the Liberal government doesn't suddenly decide that it's taxable because it's too much.

@treasureEilyn @ChrisCuilla @kim33024 @Strangeland_Elf so parents are at work until 5pm. they have to rush home, make supper, then get to the soccer field. you want soccer in the day so their parents cannot attend! And yes we do need to accommodate children activities and we always will! this is why status quo is the only option

You aren't losing an hour. The number of hours doesn't change. Society doesn't need to alter its participation in a worldwide system to accommodate the hobbies of children. Additionally, they are on summer break. It is entirely possible for them to simply play soccer earlier. These are not good arguments.

You weirdos can still get leisure time after work. But you aren’t entitled to doing your stupid hobbies that need 4 hours of extra light instead of 3 every weekday evening. I don’t care about your stupid leisure. We shouldn’t shape society around your hobbies. You can find a way to fit in your rubbish activities wherever they work instead of messing up everyone’s sleep schedules so you can golf or whatever.

@Strangeland_Elf I’m convinced every standard time proponent is unemployed or is so addicted to social media algorithms that they don’t understand the value of leisure time being after work as opposed to before

@LFPress Sunset at 7pm on August 31 with standard time. 8pm on daylight savings time. Say goodbye to one full hour of children’s soccer and baseball. Parents will have to work to 5pm.

@ChrisCuilla @kim33024 @Strangeland_Elf Sun sets at 7 PM on standard time on August 31 instead of 8pm on DST. One lost hour, less kids sports time. Your expectation is they can play soccer in the morning

@ChrisCuilla @kim33024 @Strangeland_Elf So you want to take an hour off the end the day for sports. And since parents work until 5, soccer will lose 1 full hour of field time. Horribly unpopular. The current system is just fine.

@jws519 @kim33024 @Strangeland_Elf Not a minority at all. You just tell yourself that to feel better. 😂 Since it’s just “arbitrary” then let’s just call the time when the sun is highest 12 noon. 😉

@ChrisCuilla @kim33024 @Strangeland_Elf There is nothing wrong with the current system. You are part of a small and very vocally minority. Your fail to realize that 12 is just a number and nothing more. An arbitrary numbers humans chose. The majority of us don’t need nor want change.

@jws519 @ChrisCuilla @Strangeland_Elf Standard time allotment gas better with the rise and fall of the sun. Shifting hours would mean starting work closer to sunrise. I’ve never worked anywhere where “summer hours” was a thing.

I’m not asking anyone to “push the work day later in the day”. First of all Standard Time is the standard time and DTS was the newer creation, so the 9-5 work hours were created for that in the first place, not forced on people after the fact. Also I’m not in control of anyone’s work hours, not everyone even works on a 9-5 job. People could always ask their employers if they could come in an hour earlier if it was that important on them. But forcing that change on everyone else because you want the extra sunshine at night is still pretty crazy to me.
JWS@jws519

@Strangeland_Elf You are asking to push the work day later in the day. Nobody wants that! Nobody. If you want to go standard time, fine, but summer work hours must go to 8-4 or even 7-3. I want to get my work day done first, then enjoy my own personal time how i want to.

@ChrisCuilla @Strangeland_Elf If it’s summer and they are working summer hours, and they work in Edmonton where the sun would rise at 4:04am, they won’t be driving to work in the dark now will they.

@jws519 @Strangeland_Elf Everyone won't. That's a flawed assumption. Only the people who prefer this DST thing would shift their work schedule so that a) they wake and drive to work in the dark, but b) have more daylight after work.

@WhitmerEric @washingtonpost Putting 5 hours of the workday after 12:00 is a horrible and unpopular idea. Thats basically what you’re doing with standard time - pushing the work day later in the day.

With the time change each spring to daylight saving time, the important relationship between our brains and the sun is disrupted. Sleep experts caution that permanent daylight saving time could misalign our bodies with the sun, causing health issues. wapo.st/4lDHsEp
