Previous owner had attached the duct to the register box with canvas backed duck tape. It's the wrong tape for the job, but had survived for 20 years. I ripped it off, mechanically attached the inner hose of the duct with extra-long zip ties, pulled the insulation over that and then sealed the outer hose to the box with foil duct tape
