Shameless Frontier Mayor and Booster
It’s wasteful and it’s also shameful. Small meat processors often cannot resell their hides into the leather market, because manufacturers only want to buy large-scale quantities of hides. So we dump millions of American hides into our landfills while importing millions of hides from places like Australia and New Zealand. Between hides, bones, and offal, close to 50% of the weight of a slaughtered beef is wasted. Every bit of it has a purpose and a use. Every bit of it could benefit the meat processor and the rancher financially.
The Woolshire@thewoolshire

In the US alone, 120 million cowhides go to the landfill instead of being turned into leather. Nearly 50% of global cowhides also get wasted. This isn't a problem of sourcing, this is a problem of systems. We are incredibly wasteful. Leather and natural materials can't be patented, and that's why Gates and Bezos are knee deep in the Lab Grown market. Don't fool yourself into thinking they're here to help humanity.

@thewoolshire But what about other textile uses? Wouldn't textiles with the properties of polyester (more weather and wear-proof) be beneficial? Furniture, car interiors, a million other commercial uses..

Democrats need to win 7 of 11 key races to win Senate majority in 2026. Right now, they lead 2 with substantial polling, up in 3 others with limited data. Vibes & prediction markets: Democrats are even money to win the Senate Reality: GOP is still favored (at least for now)

It still tickles me that we went from Computers dont make mistakes! To Well, sometimes the computer hallucinates and thats just how it is. All in my lifetime. RETVRN to non-stochastic/deterministic computing.
Steve Strickland@SteveStricklan6

@robertskmiles @GaryMarcus “fails less often than a human does” is a terrible metric. We build deterministic software and test it to destruction to ensure it’s 99.99999 reliable . That’s been the basis of every critical application such as accounting payroll and logistics. LLMs can’t get even close.
