@Command_Attack Ultimately statistic decisions like this are going to seem arbitrary to the good faith actor. To a certain extent they are vibes based since riot needs to make a judgement call on where the cutoff is.

@Command_Attack I think it is a dangerous precedent to set with league being as complex as it is even from a pure mathematical standpoint, many builds/champs are hidden op as stated by riot. Why put the judgement in the hands of the community when riot knows they can be wrong?

@KingNidhogg This is symptomatic of the ranked system as it is right now though, I don’t see this attitude changing unless ranked rewards/social capital linked to rank is changed in some way. Do you think there is an actionable way to address either the system or culture?

@KingNidhogg Wholeheartedly agree that dodging is cringe. I think a large reason why it is so common in this community is that many focus on results based thinking only; and often on a small time scale eg. How can I most efficiently use TODAY to win and increase rank.

I think the fact that esports became a lot more mainstream made hyper-individualistic thinking like "if it's not fun/advantageous for me i must dodge" so much more common. The super logic-cel attitude of like "WHY WOULD I DO ANYTHING THAT ISN'T PERFECTLY EFFICIENT FOR MY TIME" is so hard to root out of people too. Hard to convince people that they exist in communities/groups whether they like it or not and they should take their attitudes/actions and imagine a world where their community/group did the exact same. Even to this they do the really cringe bad faith response of "but they already do" no - they don't all do it. A portion of them might but the point is to lower that and not increase it lmao.

@KingNidhogg Since they are focused on “number go up” instead of a long term personal improvement based mindset, challenging games seem unrewarding despite priming the individual to be more prepared for rare/challenging scenarios in the future.

@drewlevin Other things I could see being helpful is making the punishment for dodges higher, perhaps a game of low prio queue for the first game dodged, three for the next, etc. Dodge timers being shared between riot games could also be implemented.

@drewlevin This brings me to my point above, that making ranked ready accounts should not be as easy as it is right now. SMS verification would obviously not fully eliminate that issue, since burner numbers are fairly easy to acquire.

I dislike how disrespectful smurfing is of the enemy team’s time. if I queue in ranked, I expect i’m 50% to win at baseline. if someone in my lobby is secretly chall, I definitely don’t have 50% to win. If I knew that beforehand I would not have queued for the game. fair or no?
