Yesterday, an important letter was sent by faith leaders to @MarkJCarney of different backgrounds, representing over 7000 members of the clergy in Canada on the horrific situation in Gaza. We invite all Canadians to read this important letter.

Thank you. I wish governments and the international community could move faster. When children are dying from malnutrition and a lack of medication, every second counts. The illegal blockade needs to be squashed- now.

Every second counts. "What has transpired in Gaza over the past twenty months is an abhorrent situation of unspeakable death and devastation that should not and cannot be allowed to continue for a single day, in fact a single minute, longer."

In our Open Letter to @MarkJCarney & @AnitaAnandMP, 412 legal, human rights, diplomatic, international affairs, social justice, UN, civil society, faith & labour leaders & experts make it unflinchingly clear: Canada must act to end genocide in #Gaza. Waiting, vacillating, remaining silent and failing or, worse, refusing to act in the face of mounting and incontrovertible evidence of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity can no longer be options for Canada. But it is not enough to simply speak out. Canada must do everything in its power to stop these atrocities and support efforts to bring those responsible to account. That requires immediate action in five priority areas and galvanizing joint measures at next week's #G7Summit: 1. Work actively towards an immediate, permanent ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian captives. 2. Insist on full humanitarian access to Gaza in a manner in keeping with core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, and demand that the Israeli ban on the UN Relief and Works Agency be completely lifted. 3. Publicly support the role of and fully comply with international courts in holding to account those who violate international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory including Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Israel. 4. Pursue all possible domestic measures, including immediately withdrawing from the free trade agreement between Canada and Israel, imposing sanctions on Israeli leaders and other individuals suspected of involvement in atrocity crimes, initiating investigations into charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act (including any Canadians or dual nationals involved in such crimes) with the aim of prosecuting offenders in Canada or other jurisdictions, enforcing a full and comprehensive two-way arms embargo, and stripping charitable status from organizations found to be complicit in crimes under international law. 5. Without further delay, join the 149 states who recognize the State of Palestine and support all efforts for Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the United Nations. We end noting that ... "Prime Minister, there is no question as to which side of history Canada belongs. Because of Canada’s proclaimed “shared values” and close relationship with Israel, Ottawa must spare no effort to bring the genocide in Gaza, and the war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, to an immediate end. Upholding international law is the only avenue through which not only peace, justice and human rights, but the durable, long-term security of Israelis and Palestinians alike will be achieved." alexneve.ca/blog/prime-min…

This Ramadan, we are joining the #FastFeed campaign to urge Canadian Muslims to donate what would have been your lunch (since many of us will fasting) to your local food bank. Join the Canadian Council of Imam’s #FastFeed campaign today and fight food insecurity this Ramadan.

This is outrageous. Why was this family targeted repeatedly by a couple who lived 13 houses (!!) down and @ottawacity @OttawaBylaw acted as their agents while overlooking others who had done the same? This system needs to be fixed - now. #racism #ottnews

Two Ottawa families say they've been haunted by bills for more than a decade after the City of Ottawa tore down their fence and invoiced them. That fence dispute has turned into multiple lawsuits and more than $43,000 in ever-growing penalties. cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…

We need more precise language. Israel’s deadly bomb attack right outside Beirut’s “main specialist public hospital” where ordinary people go to heal, get surgeries, scans & checkups, is not a mere “airstrike.” It’s an act of terror on a civilian population. It’s terrorism.

Seven medical NGOs have reportedly been barred from entering Gaza, just days after the U.S. urged Israel to address Gaza's catastrophic humanitarian crisis or risk losing military support. The timing is unsettling, especially following the New York Times publication where 65 doctors, nurses, and paramedics—including Jewish practitioners—documented the targeting of children, providing compelling evidence of this pattern of violence. Yet, figures like Bill Ackman and others continue to question and undermine these firsthand reports, pressuring the NYT to confirm its thorough vetting of the piece -- which it did. It’s staggering to witness credible medical accounts met with such hostility, while access to life-saving medical aid is stripped away. Are we prepared to confront this reality, or are we content with the silencing of those who bear witness to it? Here is the original story -- nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Today, the ICJ's opinion reaffirmed that the occupation of Palestinian territories constitutes a clear violation of international law. Canada must take immediate and concrete action to enforce this ruling. Actions to stop Netanyahu's expansion of illegal settlements on Palestinian territories and the historic violence. One critical action that Canada must adopt without delay is the full recognition of Palestinian statehood, following the recent examples set by the governments of Spain, Norway, and Ireland. Everyone has the right to live in peace and security, free from fear and violence.

“If we shall not end the occupation, we shall not have security,” warns Ami Ayalon, former head of Shin Bet, “and if we shall not end this occupation, we shall not have democracy.” In an extraordinarily candid interview, Israel’s former internal security chief condemns what he calls Prime Minister Netanyahu’s “toxic leadership,” and argues that as the war continues, “we are losing our identity as people, as Jews, and as human beings.” Watch our full conversation here.
