These populists would have us still using horses if they had their way. The apocryphal story has Friedman visiting a construction site and asking why the crew is using shovels instead of earthmovers. When told this is a “jobs program,” he replies something like: “Oh, I thought you were trying to build a canal. If it’s jobs you want, then you should give these workers spoons instead of shovels.”
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders

Jeff Bezos, worth $234 billion, plans to replace 600,000 Amazon workers with robots. Now, he wants to spend $100 billion to fully automate not just his warehouses, but factories in the U.S & other countries. Oligarchs are waging all out war against workers. FIGHT BACK.

Incredible how many Senators fail basic reasoning. This stat measures prosecutions, which presupposes the detection they’re arguing against. It’s like saying “nobody’s been caught speeding here” as an argument against speed cameras. We should require standardized tests for gov.
Senator Patty Murray@PattyMurray

The average person is more likely to be struck by lightning than they are to commit voter fraud. Seriously. That's a real stat. I'm voting NO on the SAVE America Act.

California is beating its own climate goals ahead of schedule: ✅ Two-thirds of the state grid powered by clean energy ✅ More than 2.5M electric vehicles ✅ 201K public chargers (more than gas nozzles) ✅ 17,000 MW of battery storage (2nd only to China) The cynics said it couldn't be done.

@skeptrune @GavinNewsom Understandable, but if we all vote accordingly and tell our friends to do so, we can see improvement. California is too beautiful to cede to loser politicians.

I am proud to stand with @grahamformaine @ZohranKMamdani & join @hasanthehun feed. The problem is with the neocons in our party who blundered into Iraq, 20 years in Afghanistan, Libya, Gaza, & now support the Iran war. Out with the old guard. We need a new moral direction.

Would love to see more Dems calling out antisemitism on their own side with the same fervor. It starts with admitting how big a problem it is and then revoking all support for Platner, icing out Mamdani, alienating Piker & candidates who join his stream, etc

More intentional misdirection about California misgovernance. Californians, including train autists like me, are upset at California High Speed Rail bc it posts Looney Tunes stats like “1 decade delayed” and “$100B over-budget” and “0 working rail” and “CEO beats his wife”.
Alan Fisher@alanthefisher

there are so many astroturfed conservatives against CAHSR because the second that there is a working train between 2 cities in the US that can hit 200mph it is fundamentally over for the argument of "that doesn't work here" The oil lobby will do everything possible to stop that

A big part of “cities are awful” discourse is some people are more scared by rough areas than others. I was in NYC in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I saw real crime. I am less easily scared than Coddled clearly is. This doesn’t mean crime isn’t bad, it’s just not as bad as they claim.
Coddled Affluent Professional@feelsdesperate

Paris, London, and Rome all have problems. All of them have neighborhoods that aren’t culturally and economically integrated and that have high crime rates where Carl would ‘feel scared’ if he decided to visit. Do these neighborhoods tend to be more peripheral than central than in the US? Yes, but so what?

@HistoryBoomer “Things used to be shitty so we should stop improving things” isn’t the winning argument you think it is
