We deeply mourn the loss of Mzee Mohamed Ega Musa Mohamed, a cherished member of the Eastleigh community, who passed away this morning in Nairobi at the remarkable age of 102 after a brief illness. He belonged to one of the pioneering families that established roots in Nairobi at the turn of the last century and played a significant role in the founding of Eastleigh, now a thriving Somali business enclave. Mzee Mohamed, who was born in Eastleigh and worked in British Somaliland, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and in Kenya, possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of Nairobi in general and Eastleigh in particular, and his passing brings to mind the African proverb that when an old man dies, a library burns to the ground. May Allah forgive Mzee Mohamed and elevate his station among those who are guided. May He guide him along the path of those who came before, and may He grant him and us His forgiveness. May Allah expand his resting place and shine light upon it. May Allah grant Mzee Mohamed's family the strength to bear this loss.
