@miaaowing Welp, guess you're a bit screwed on that front. DisplayLink is just not a great experience, especially with the latency it has

When your Mac connects to a network, it first checks if the name it wants is taken in mdns by sending a broadcast DNS query. If it is taken, it tries again with a different name until it finds one that's free. Avahi on Linux and Bonjour on MacOS handle RFC 6762 nicely
Jamie Birch@birch_js

I connected to some WiFi and macOS alerted me that it had had to rename my Mac from "MacBook Pro (2)" to "MacBook Pro (3)" due to a name clash on the network. But why was my Mac the one that got renamed? There must be a hidden heuristic to decide which is the dominant Mac.

@nebkhet @uwunetes The plus side is that Notion has not peaked my interest once, so I've got that going for me. If anything it's excel/sheets at work, sheets/libreoffice/softmaker office at home for various things

@uwunetes you've lost your mind if you genuinely think notion can replace sheets/excel i'm really tired of this propaganda the tables on notion are glorified kanban boards and are completely useless without functions and referencing

@DevBredda @sidharthify @uwunetes Having administrated both Microsoft and Google Workspace, M$ just isn't easy to manage at all. Easy for end-users? Sure I can agree. Having to click through 3-5 admin panels just to get information or troubleshoot account issues is not fun on the M$ side though

when considering IT, you would notice that the reason why big corp use microsoft is due to their enterprise solution. its the best to manage and easiest compared to the rest on the list. so if your company has a lot of employees (500+) which are around the world too, then you would be using microsoft...

@2Heavensgaming @DEAADSEAA No. This is the default behavior since Windows 8. When you click shutdown, it closes out the userspace apps, keeps the drivers and background applications loaded, then hibernates. Users think shutting down works like it did in Windows 7: where it closes all that and turns off

@LickyOnMyBlick @InternetH0F The issue is when it turns into menial busywork paired with other forms of it assigned by other teachers with unrealistic deadlines and the assumption that none of the others would do the same. It ends up perpetuating a cycle where grades slip because the kid needs sleep

@InternetH0F Homework is meant to be review of the material they’re currently studying, and to do problems over and over. Repetition is the key to success. If i do addition/subtraction problems over and over for an hour, i’m gonna do better at maths than the kids who didn’t do that

@2Heavensgaming @DEAADSEAA In their mind, shutting down and turning the computer back on is restarting. Unfortunately, thanks to Fast Boot, it hibernates the computer instead of shutting down, so it's got the fun effect of allowing issues to manifest and not get resolved by something most people do

@EggOfYourDemise @LavenderLovetap @MadsPosting Unfortunately it's to protect idiots from themselves. Having to wait isn't really all that more difficult, sure it's a barrier, but it's not hard to get around. It's possible to not be a fan of it, but simultaneously understand the logic behind why the decision was made
