According to reports circulating from multiple Nigerian news platforms, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reportedly emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections.  The report says the NDC closed the sale of its presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, and Peter Obi was reportedly the only person who purchased the forms before the deadline. This effectively positions him as the party’s consensus or unopposed presidential aspirant for now.  This development comes after Obi reportedly left the ADC coalition earlier this year due to internal crises, court cases, and disagreements within the opposition alliance. He later aligned with the NDC alongside some other political figures.  Reports also say the NDC had earlier zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single term, a move many political observers believed favored Peter Obi.  The party’s screening process for presidential aspirants is expected to continue, while sales of forms for governorship and legislative positions were reportedly extended to May 24, 2026.
