The issue is not oral sex itself but having sex with someone whose sexual health status you do not know. Engaging in oral sex with a casual or new partner carries risks because HPV can be transmitted this way, and certain strains especially HPV 16 are linked to throat cancer. While many people may carry oral HPV, only a small proportion eventually develop cancer.
