🗣️ “I’m proud of how I stuck with it when it was going rough. It’s easy when things are going well and it’s clicking, but when it’s not despite as hard as you can for it to go well, that’s where it tests you a little bit.”
Absolutely loved my conversation with 2025 U.S. Weight Throw champ and World Championship qualifier Rachel Richeson this week. We talked about all the highs and lows of her breakout season and did a little bit of looking ahead to 2026.

Alex Rose made his first global championship in 2013. Alex Rose made his first global final in 2022. Alex Rose won his first global medal in 2025.
In a rainy comp in Tokyo, Rose claimed Samoa’s first ever global medal in track and field, winning bronze in the discus at 66.96m.
I recently got the chance to chat with Alex about what this medal means, everything he’s had to overcome to reach that podium (both inside Japan National Stadium and out), and a whole lot more about one of the best stories of these World Championships.

I’ve had a few days now to digest what exactly last week in Tokyo was. The answer is crazy.
Across the nine days of the 2025 World Athletics Championships, I put out:
- 170 minutes of mixed zone interviews
- 71 minutes of 3 sit-down interviews
- 199 minutes of live recaps
Hitting about 20,000 steps a day, running on 4 hours of sleep at best, it was a damn good first experience at a global championship.
I’m so grateful for @CitiusMag and @ASICSamerica giving me the chance to cross the Pacific to help give throwing the love it deserves.
I love this job, and I love getting to talk to all the amazing people that make throwing the best sport in the world. From the people I’ve interviewed three or four times to the ones I just met this week, it was an honor to chat with everyone.
It’s especially validating to hear from the athletes that they appreciate the work I’ve been doing this year (especially ones I had never met before, like Vanessa Kamga and Chuk Enekwechi), but they’re the people doing the hard things, I’m just the guy that gets the joy of talking about the cool things they do.
On a personal note: This meet was especially meaningful because the Olympics in this stadium in 2021 was the meet that made me fall in love with the sport. Seeing Ryan Crouser, Daniel Ståhl and Valarie Allman defend/reclaim their titles in the same stadium in front of countless thousands of fans is something I’ll never forget.
The 2025 season is over now, and what a season it was. But 2026 is gonna be here before you know it and I’ve theoretically got some exciting stuff planned for the offseason, so stay tuned 👀

Mondo Duplantis gave the 85,000 fans in the Japan National Stadium on 15 September 2025. Starting at 5.50m, Mondo cleared the opening height, then, 5.85m, then 6.00m, then 6.10m and 6.15, all on first attempts!
It was not until 6.30 meters, where Mondo encountered some real challenges, missing on attempts one and two, and finally, clearing 6.30 meters or 20 feet and 8.03 inches!
The Swedish star entertained the crowd, as the 85,000 fans were delighted in Mondo's performance. Mondo took off his shoes, jumped into the stands and kissed his fiancee after a warm embrace.
The fact is, Mondo Duplantis loves his fans and his fans love him. A night where five of his fellow vauters cleared 5.90 meters, this competiiton was historic!
Mondo now has set World records fourteen times! What will he do next?
