Super excited this article is finally out on Media, War & Conflict Here, my colleagues & I compared the cross cultural representation of death in Western and non-Western media during the Oct 7 attack and Israel's war on Gaza, by examining ~4,500 photos by six outlets (1)

One of the interesting findings (& there are many!) was how VOA deviated from the British, German & French outlets in its reporting on death + dying, further problematizing the treatment of Western or non-Western media as monoliths. Holler at me if you need the full text (3)

To do so, we used a hybrid methodological approach that involved training an AI model on a preexisting coding instrument, and going through multiple refinement rounds to reach an .89 intercoder reliability level based on Krippendorf's alpha. (2)
