Fortunately we don't charge overdue fines but even if we did we don't know who to charge because it's so long ago that we don't know who borrowed it. So we'll never know if the canoe was ever built... *fades to black. Roll end credits*

Our @LAEL_LU Open Day visitors today had: a talk on myths about English by @j_culpeper, the challenge to spot deception in language with @DrClaireH, and a theory-of-mind activity with @SilleBrandt. Plus the chance to hear about our new BSc in Language Sciences.

@EJsKnitsGB My daughter is like this, it's the most amazing gift! I got the kitchen deep clean for my birthday, and she's currently working through all the upstairs bedrooms for something to do post GCSEs. I don't fully understand, but am very grateful!!

I've been re-reading the 1945 manifestos for a thing next week. The sections on education - written in the middle of an economic crisis, with a huge job of reconstruction ahead - make quite a contrast with the narrowly econometric vision we get today.
