Today I learned: Williamson County is named after the the first white person documented to have played the banjo.

Q: Who was @wilcotxgov named after? A: As lawmakers were in the habit of honoring one of their own members when selecting county names, Judge Robert McAlpin Williamson, known affectionately as “Three-Legged Willie,” was chosen for the honor. Williamson had been stationed in the new county area during his service as a Texas Ranger. wilcotx.gov/1596/1848-to-1…

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.

We had a new langauge for translation during today's evictions court docket- Turkish! Precinct 1 serves a very diverse population and our court staff hiring is reflective of that.

As a young man, Williamson had a serious two-year illness. As a result, his right leg had been crippled and shriveled. For the rest of his life, he fastened a wooden leg at his knee, thus the nickname. The act of the legislature also stated that John Berry, William Dalrymple, David Cowen, Washington Anderson, Jacob M Harrell, and James O Rice be appointed as county commissioners, and that said commissioners’ names be submitted to the voters for election on the next first Monday of May. Williamson County was formed by dividing Milam County.

Even though JPs are elected and in partisan elections at that- the reality is that a large majority of the work of the our courts isn't inherintly political. We've spent the last four years building trust and a working relationship that has been essential to advancing the cause of the ME, including the creation of the Death Investigator program until we get there. Each of them understands on a very personal level why depending on JPs to assess manner and causes of death is outdated and no longer physically and emotionally feasible. We all ran again with the intent to make sure that the 4 of us are the last Wilco JPs to sign death certificates. I just can't believe it's been 8 years I've been working on the ME. It was a good idea and overdue when I started. The four of us are going to finish the job.

All 4 Wilco Justices of the Peace have now been nominated and all four of us will get to serve another term together as none of us faced any primary or general election opponents. That means we can get to work right away on our collective goal of advancing the cause of establishing a Medical Examiner in Wilco and getting elected judges out of the business of death. A 700,000 person county simply can no longer rely on our curret antiquated system. Stay tuned...

With 12,623 votes cast for me in this week's Democratic Primary, I'm honored to be your nominee with 100% of the vote! That's nearly double my prior primary election totals- 5,317 (2018) & 6,129 (2022). While there is still a general election in November, I have no Republican opponent so I'm looking forward to serving the voters of Northwest Austin and Round Rock for a 3rd term. I'll be working to continue cutting down on our case backlog and working tirelessly with my fellow JPs to finally get a Medical Examiner established in Williamson County.

BREAKING: Two Williamson Co. polling locations have received orders to stay open. Northstar Georgetown and Georgetown Annex will remain open until 10pm for both Democratic and Republican primaries.
Andrew Lamparski@andrewlamparski

Polling hours have been extended in Dallas Co. after confusion following a change in voting location rules. TX Dems are calling on Williamson Co. to do the same. It recently eliminated centralized voting, meaning voters can only vote at an assigned precinct. @cbsaustin
