Recently, a serious security loophole was found in a popular Interview Prep platform. The issue was, seemingly the platform was not verifying the JWT signature. This allowed attackers to craft their own JWTs with fake claims and impersonate real users. Key takeaway: Don’t roll your own Auth and don’t roll your own JWT validation. If you search YouTube for “Spring Boot JWT Authentication”, you’ll still find tutorials showing outdated practices like writing a custom JWT filter and validation logic. While it may look simple, it’s easy to miss critical checks as this incident shows. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
