We released air.dev — a new Agentic Development Environment by JetBrains.
Claude, Gemini, Codex, and Junie side-by-side with you — powered by code insight, beautiful UI, and vast development tooling.
But underneath there's a technological iceberg. Let me walk you through it. 🧵

I have been waiting a long time for this. Finally @JetBrains partners with @Daytonaio 🎉
Many thanks to @kashmervil for the support!

Remote dev with @jetbrains gateway is really disappointing with lots of bugs and @JetBrains_Fleet is still just a toy compared to GoLand. Sad that after multiple years @code still works best, but really it's just a JS/TS IDE...
English

@jaroslawjarosik @jetbrains Hey! Here it is youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/CWM-5435…
We plan to support it in the next year, the earlier the better :)
English

@jetbrains hello, is ability to use CodeWithMe with Gateway on the roadmap? any ticket I could track?
English

@_prbh @terrajobst I think the easiest way is to use @JBToolbox, install the EAP build of Gateway from there and connect to whatever host/cloud
English

@_prbh @terrajobst Hey, sorry for that! The experience can be harsh. Turning a single process application with thousands of plugins into a distributed system is a challenging task. Each release and EAP brings a lot of improvements. What version have you tried? Do you have any specific problems?
English

@TimMattison Hey Tim! A better alternative is the newer version of the Gateway and IDE+Client pair, remote-dev is in beta and evolves quickly.
It would really help if you could specify the affected version and could describe your scenarios in terms of features and interaction
English

@gggbxng @Joe_Stead @gorohoroh @JetBrainsRider I'm not the best person to ask. This is essentially a not existing ReSharper feature. There should be an issue somewhere in Rider/ReSharper tracker, but I couldn't find it. @JetBrainsRider, could you assist?
English

@Joe_Stead @gorohoroh @JetBrainsRider currently we do not differentiate declarations and usages, we'll fix that up to v1.0
English

@pablops93 @jetbrains We have an issue for it youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/GTW-78
Some limited (not yet really a feature and not fully released) support is available already. It's hidden in Run Configurations Settings > Manage Targets. It requires some manual configuration

English

@kashmervil @jetbrains I’m developing using a Linux server, I’m not able to launch and debug an application because I cannot set the option “-X” when I connect to the Clion server (with Gateway). So if you know how… 😀
English

@pablops93 @jetbrains Do you mean forwarding for the application launched from IDE or a general type of fallback for the IDE itself? What's your use case?
English

@jetbrains Its time to add the option to forward x11 when when you use the Jetbrains Gateway to a linux server 🤷🏻♂️
English

@damageboy @clion_ide @JetBrainsRider @jetbrains The issue is exactly for allowing this type of configuration once without having to go through all of your remote machines. Here's the issue for the second thing you describe youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/GTW-2457
English

@clion_ide @JetBrainsRider @jetbrains I know how to do it.
But remote makes this more painful:
* If I have 3 remote machines, who the remembers where I fixed it and where I didn't
* The UI for doing this through the remote resource monitor is currently buggy for me (I can type into the setting text box?)
English

@JetBrainsRider / @jetbrains / @clion_ide I think that the current JB/Remote experience is greatly suffering from the fact that my local setup has (for example) 8GB heap size, yet when I open a remote machine I get the default (unless I manually change it which is buggy)
English

@damageboy @JetBrainsRider @jetbrains @clion_ide Hey, it's on our radar youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/GTW-2926…
It's a bit complicated, though. People tend to get small machines in the cloud and are surprised that everything works worse than on their dev machines.
We plan to lower the requirements as well

It’s hard to believe @Jetbrains @intellijidea has gone from this to this (2004) to this (2022)

English

@dcblogdev Could be biased (obviously am), but we use YouTrack boards

Another successful launch! It's now possible to use your JetBrains IDEs on AWS! Congrats to both teams!
JetBrains@jetbrains
JetBrains has joined forces with @awscloud to create an integration between Gateway and Amazon CodeCatalyst. Now you can develop remotely in @intellijidea, @pycharm, and @golandide and have your code and dev environments hosted on AWS! Read more 👇 blog.jetbrains.com/blog/2022/12/0…

I've tried Cloud IDEs without much success, but JetBrains Gateway changed my mind for slow connections in Guatemala (10mbps).
I paired it with Oracle Linux Cloud Developer Image, the result is blazing fast download speeds for Maven and Node
