@MiTresSentimos Just an hour earlier, someone was showing me stolen Jollibee signages and statue for sale on Facebook Marketplace 😂

Corporations deserve to be stolen from. No ones getting hurt but the PSE shareholders. Thats why you should secretly steal the Jollibee plates until you have a full set enough to run a karinderya with.

One thing I noticed among a lot of Filipino users is the tendency to insert national self-commentary into places that aren't really about the Philippines. For example, I saw a Chinese user on Xiaohongshu post a photo of herself at a Philippine tourist spot, and a Filipino...

@idkmqnjf Decades of neocolonialism and elite corruption resulted in our collective insecurity... It's just sad to witness!

Imo, it's because of alienation, as the effects of decades of continuous neocolonialism and the societal decay of the state it incurs result in this level of disconnect amongst the working class from their own government that Filipinos seek outside validation. It's very common...

I have to clarify my opinion: I'm not criticizing the frustration regarding the current state of our society. Nobody should supress that. I also have my own frustrations. I'm pointing out how people inject it into contexts that don't fit, like the woman just having fun.

@jankenrayu So I'm not actually saying that the commenter's sentiments are wrong—it's wrong to surpress those feelings— it's just about where and to whom they expressed it to... Context awareness.

@kasukasu_illus It’s still relevant since the original post is about a place here in the Philippines. If you see these type of comments more often don’t be suprised as it’s really a shithole rn. If you aren’t a Filipino you won’t understand. If you are, why are you so chill about that topic?

@jankenrayu I'm not ignorant nor apathetic about the state of our society. What I'm saying is that it's weird to dump the social frustration on someone's post that's far Philippine socio-political commentary—it's just a woman enjoying a city view, and posting on a non-EN site.

@cornukopiko I understand your sentiment. As the saying goes, "Pilipinas, ang hirap mong mahalin."

@kasukasu_illus Thx. It is just a very prevalent issue and I suppose it's hard to be proud of my own country (and think of other stuff to mention) when most news I read is of a Filo wasting my taxes. But yes, not appropriate for the context of the original Ch post, and not a unique Ph problem

@vinzcio Neocolonialism and elite corruption resulted in collective insecurity. I understand why the frustration would leak out in everyday interactions. So I don't disagree with the commenter's feeling in my post's example—just pointing out the resulting social awkwardness.

@cea_burn Based on the context you provided, I'm guessing that the user is upset that foreign brands are landing in more places here when there's other issues at hand. But the government doesn't have anything to do with Nintendo wanting to open a store—huge stretch.

@MINISKRAMBOL My professor was part of a studio that worked on Disney's direct-to-video animations. I've learned that a lot of foreign productions are outsourced, whether partly or fully, to Filipino animators!

I just woke up 😹 I thought this post would just go into the void as usual. Anyway, I was just writing my observation with no malicious intent and with consideration that this behavior doesn't apply to every single Filipino internet user. It's just something I have observed.

@paygorn_101 Yeah! Politics will always be relevant, but I don't think that we should disregard social grace—no, it's not being overly sensitive but graceful. I wrote this post when I saw a Filipino user commenting about senators in English on a Chinese social media—it was out of place 😹

@kasukasu_illus Oh bitch, the state of a nation's internal politics is ALWAYS relevant. You're annoyed by the perseverance of these messages because you're unaffected of what they imply. You're privileged -- need I say more?

@apakagagumo I said "a lot of Filipinos," not "all Filipinos." I was intentionally mindful to say so. Of course, it doesn't apply for all 100 million of us!

...randomly commenting, "In Germany, we [example]" or bringing up national problems under unrelated posts, though maybe I just haven't encountered it as much. Commenting like that feels self-centered and disconnected.

...commenter replied in English, "The Philippines is nice, but there's so many corrupt senators." Doesn't it feel awkward when OP is an outsider to that context? Bringing your national frustration to a Chinese site. I rarely see other nationalities do this as often—like...
