"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" comes from a 19th century poem. Modern version: If at first you don't succeed, play, play the game.

I encountered a $6 muffin yesterday. I'm still thinking about it. $6 for a muffin.

People have a lot of preconceptions when one works as a cannabis lobbyist. My road in was systems, policy, biochemistry, and a recognition of a familiar pattern. When I looked into the history of the criminalization of cannabis in 2009, I saw its parallels to a lot of things. This was just a sliver. A look back in recognition of this week's rescheduling. substack.com/home/post/p-19…

Very provocative that cannabis is the only federally scheduled drug whose scheduling is different based on the customer (which category of buyer gets registered at point of purchase) rather than by the drug's inherent properties. It's not science. It's a process of bureaucratic un-entanglement and a shifting of flows (money).

@katecac @walterkirn Is the opposite true? “I want to believe X.” Does that mean I don’t believe X? I hope not, because I want to believe X.

I once had a psychoanalyst who told me to focus on whatever happened last before something I found weird happened. It's a little rule of thumb I've kept around.

@jeffreytucker Once the expression "content creator" was born, it was all over. I actually remember the first time I heard the term and who said it.

Seems too late to say it: I'm completely fed up with AI generated content. It's gone from 10 percent to 90 percent in a very short time. As someone who has believed my entire life in writing as an expression of mind and spirit, the trash being cranked out today is a disgrace. What can be done?

This summer, County Highway will put up billboards in six places whose names contributed to great American song titles and lyrics. Care to make a suggestion?

I've followed your work for more than a decade. I'm a subscriber. But I rarely get through the podcast anymore. Maybe he's a good reporter. It doesn't change that he's repellent apparently to the audience. Not funny. Not charming. Takes up air space that is devoid of content (bc he's going for humor or charm that he doesn't have) which is the same as dead space, but annoying dead space. Maybe if he straight up reported his findings like a newscaster it would be better. Maybe he's adorable in "real life."

Ironically, most penguins don't know that today is World Penguin Day and think it's just a regular Saturday. The reason, of course, is that they refused to adopt the new Gregorian calendar in 1582, and still adhere to the old Julian one, for tax purposes.

Let me summarize the state of the THC molecule following this week's developments: THC molecule from "hemp": Not on the drug schedule, but federally banned. THC molecule from "medical marijuana": Schedule III drug. Medical applications. On par with Tylenol. THC molecule from cannabis on the "adult use/recreational" market: Schedule I drug, as terrible as heroin. Got it? Got it? Good.

Im still waiting for the market to shit itself collapse and be rocking in a corner somewhere when the only difference in a each of those variables is entirely based off how the plant is grown, and how that THC molecule is extracted, otherwise it’s still all the same plant

@katecac Jfc, take your baby-step win. I already smell it in 55mph traffic, and every intersection w a stop light, it's 50% chance of weed wafting. I'm probably allergic to the crap, and I have at least one client a week *reeking* of pot while driving their pets and children.
