Weird and poor that the BBC commentators are skirting around why Partey wasn't playing in Ghana's first game. It's a matter of public record that criminal proceedings in the UK meant he was denied a visa to enter Canada, why not tell viewers directly?

Yesterday and today in my gym I was the only Irish person in the female changing rooms - surely at this stage I should be able to apply for ethnic minority grants?

When doing the World Cup posts I've used a combination of 'old' spellings and 'new' ones (e.g. Türkiye for Turkey), but the more I've thought about it the less inclined I am to do the 'new' ones. For example, Côte d'Ivoire has asked that everyone pronounce it as such. But language evolves organically through centuries of cultural exchange, trade, history etc. It doesn't do it by bureaucratic decree. Forcing adoption of names like Côte d'Ivoire and Türkiye creates unnecessary confusion in my view. It also sets a worrying precedent for politicised renaming. Surely respect for a nation's self-identity doesn't mean the erasure of the linguistic heritage of others? Global communication thrives on stable, familiar terms that are shaped by time and convention, not whimsical or ephemeral diplomatic sensitivities. So, from now on, it's back to the 'normal' spellings. And I'm just glad that Hungary (Magyarország) aren't in this year's tournament... I'm interested in what others think here.

If Andy Burnham walks into Number 10 without a General Election, it would be an absolute disgrace. Britain cannot keep being handed unelected Prime Ministers. Let the people decide. General Election now. 🗳️ 🇬🇧

It's the story that rocked the DUP. I speak to party insiders about Jeffrey Donaldson's double life. "Jeffrey was a shrewd, sophisticated liar. His entire life was a lie. He was a very sinister person," one says. "I hope he rots in hell," another adds🧵 belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/courts/du…

What exactly would @sinnfeinireland do differently, Órfhlaith? In West Belfast, their political stronghold for decades, the outcomes speak for themselves. The constituency continues to rank among the most deprived in Northern Ireland, with high levels of economic inactivity, child poverty, and long-term health inequalities. Around 40% of children in parts of Belfast are estimated to be living in poverty, while unemployment and social housing waiting lists remain persistently above the regional average. After years of political dominance, these figures raise serious questions about whether Sinn Féin is focused on delivering meaningful improvements for working-class communities- or prioritising ideological politics over practical results.

Britain will have its 6th Prime Minister in 7 years. The longer we’re shackled to Westminster chaos, the more we suffer. It is time to plan & prepare for a united Ireland, to set a date for a unity referendum & end the regressive role of all British governments in our affairs.

These matches should be played in the town of whoever gets drawn out first. Would be a huge boost to the local economy and have an amazing atmosphere for everyone involved instead of getting lost in Dublin City which most fans won’t even travel to Semis and final absolutely in Croke Park, but leave the quarters in the local stadium for whoever is lucky enough to be drawn out first

I find the BBC opting for ‘Türkiye’ over ‘Turkey’ to be very odd. Should the French say ‘London’ instead of ‘Londres’? Should we pronounce ‘Russia’ as ‘Rah-see-ya’? Exonyms are a normal part of language.

Honestly, why can't English political activists learn how to tweet photos of five-bar-gate tally marks from St Valentine's Primary School or wherever so we can work out who's winning? We know they're all doing it.

What a difference between Obama’s Communist Party event and Trump’s UFC rally. Notice it? Not one single American flag. No red, white, and blue anywhere. They can all go to hell. 🇺🇸

@bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 Why when there are plenty of local folk wanting to be Doctors and Nurses. If they stopped importing foreign personnel, depleting their home countries of health professionals, maybe our own could get the training required and the vacancies filled. Seems quite deliberate!

I'll continue taking my toddler daughter into the females restroom. I'll continue to announce my presence, my dilemma, and inquire if any of the occupants have a problem with it. So far I've never met one of these vapid women that think it would be better for my toddler to see penises, walk in piss, and sit on a toilet seat that just had piss all over it. It seems like those women mostly exist online.
