Unacceptable. The negligence and incompetence the Orleans Parish criminal justice system continues to show is staggering. If they won't do the job required to keep their residents and visitors safe, it's time for someone else to step up and take care of it. The people of New Orleans deserve so much better.

Jacob Carter, co-owner of the Howdy Bagel in Tacoma, Washington, was murdered by 17 year old Malik Cornelius on January 5, 2024 while on vacation in New Orleans.
Cornelius admitted to murdering Jake and was sentenced to 26 years.
But Jacob’s 5 siblings still had unanswered questions.
They found out Cornelius was on an ankle monitor for a separate gun charge when he murdered Jake. No one had answers about the “monitoring”, so Jake’s family got the ankle monitoring documents themselves. 💪 (attached in thread)
There was an 11 day period in November that Cornelius missed every single check in (more than 90). The day before and after Malik murdered Jacob, he was roaming the streets through the am hours, unchecked by anyone.
The Juvenile Judge didn’t care and the DA claimed he didn’t know.
Jake’s brothers and sister won’t stop.
