So, I just did an essay for the upcoming issue of the Atlantic about how old we are in our heads. I personally am obsessed with this question. If you ask someone “How old are you in your head?” they almost immediately grasp what you mean. 1/6

@ThatRabbiCohen @ancestrydna It could be an NPE (“non-paternity event” — unexpected dad) but it could also be Ancestry’s algorithm, or lines you haven’t traced yet. Also, the further back you go, the less likely you are to have inherited DNA from an ancestor. I wouldn’t be too put off by it!

@ThatRabbiCohen @ancestrydna Also, have heard from other genealogists that percentages of Scottish on Ancestry are usually a lot higher than expected. They are definitely estimates and changeable!

@ThatRabbiCohen @ancestrydna Were your ancestors from northern England near the Scottish border? I have both Scottish and English ancestors but show up as higher % Scottish on Ancestry because many of the English ones were just south of the Scottish border.
