Michael Jackson's SuperBowl halftime in 1993 broke record for being the first show to have more viewers than the SuperBowl itself. He was the only act in history where NFL offered to pay the artist, but it went to his charity at the time 'Heal LA' which helped struggling youth.

When Michael Jackson died in 2009, his estate owed creditors over $500 million and was on the verge of forced liquidation. It's now worth more than $2 billion. The new MJ biopic just made $217 million in three days, the biggest biopic opening ever. Two years ago, Sony Music quietly paid around $600 million for half of Michael Jackson's catalog: Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, all of it. The full catalog got valued at $1.2 to $1.5 billion, the highest price ever paid for one artist's music. Sony bet this catalog would keep earning forever and that a hit movie would push it higher. Before MICHAEL opened, the Jackson estate was already pulling in around $75 million a year from streams and royalties. Bohemian Rhapsody, the 2018 Queen biopic, kept their songs charting for years afterward. Same producer, Graham King. Lionsgate spent $200 million making the movie. The original budget was $155 million. The number ballooned because the estate's lawyers had forgotten about a clause in an old legal settlement that barred them from showing the accuser onscreen, so the entire ending had to be reshot. The estate paid $10 to 15 million for the new scenes. Director Antoine Fuqua walked away with $25 million in pay (a $10 million base plus a $15 million bonus for the trouble). Producer Graham King got $16 million ($6 million plus a $10 million bonus). Critics hated it. The film sits at 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and one review called it an "infomercial." Audiences disagreed completely and gave it a 97 percent score on the same site, the highest audience score ever for a music biopic. About 6.3 million people in the US and Canada bought tickets at an average price of $15. Lionsgate's internal target is $700 million worldwide. Bohemian Rhapsody, the high water mark for music biopics, finished its run at $910 million. If MICHAEL hits that target, the Jackson estate gets years of extra income from a catalog that already brings in $47 million a year from records and song royalties. Sony, which now owns half, gets the same lift on the bet it placed two years ago. The film ends with a card that reads "His Story Continues." Lionsgate is already prepping the sequel.

A highlight of my career is that the only brand MJ was ever publicly spotted in was @fubu Not only did we dress him, but I was fortunate enough to spend time with him privately. I recently shared one of those moments on @jimmykimmellive As we all take a trip down memory lane with the MJ movie, it warms my heart knowing I had the privilege of being around such an icon. Thank you to @rodneyjerkins for giving Leslie @k.i.m.mediallc aka @thecavugroup the opportunity for us to join a recording session. And thank you, Leslie, for teaching me how to always fight to be the first in the room And to then own the room once I was in it. For anyone who wants to learn the life changing lessons I got from Leslie, make sure to grab her new book dropping May 5th: @someone_has_to_be_the_first It’s a game changer. 🕺🏾

MJ’s ‘Dangerous’ cover, was painted by Mark Ryden over a six month span. The artwork is packed with hidden details & a ton of symbolism. Definitely goes down as one of the most intricate album covers of all time, the more you look at it the more you find 🎨 Shop the ‘Jackson 5’ Artist Collection on Complex, Link in the Bio 🔗

The additions of Taurean York and Red Murdock will make backup ILB one of the most interesting position battles, with Karene Reid, Jordan Turner and Levelle Bailey — all UDFA pickups in the last two years — returning. Jonah Elliss is also expected to get some ILB snaps in OTAs.

Source said Texas A&M LB Taurean York to sign as undrafted free agent with #Broncos is getting $25,000 signing bonus and addition to that $300,000 guaranteed on salary for a $325,000 total guarantee. A nice pickup for Broncos. Was teammate of Tyler Onyedim last season.

Steve Kerr says that America is going backwards 👀 “When I finished college almost forty years ago, if you went to school and got a degree, you could get a job and you could buy a house. Now that's out of reach for most people between student debt and home prices and the economy slanted toward the very, very top one per cent. We don't really have a middle class, and we don't have what used to represent the American Dream, which was: you can do better than your parents. We're going backward on all that. Our family is lucky. I'm in a position where my family can live well. But there are millions of people out there, young people who are looking at the horizon and saying, "I did everything I was told I needed to do, and I can't buy a house, and I can't chase my dream." Think about what that means for the stability of communities and cities and a whole country.” (via @NewYorker)
